Currently to get good visibility distance to allow one to attack field guns, the "Level of Detail" slider needs to be set very high. It seems there is a big jump in visibility distance on the Max Detail setting.
I think most people would agree that field guns are one of the most important pieces of ground detail to see at a distance, whether flying or driving.
The LoD slider doesn't hurt performance too much, except that to see GVs at a good dive-bombing distance requires the display distance slider to be set fairly high (which makes a lot of since for reasons of cover). However, this in combination with maxed-out LoD slider makes for a very large frame-rate hit, and at a big range of altitudes.
Is it possible to make the field ack be at it's longest vis distance at a much lower LoD setting? I think most folks would prefer that the game-critical elements be rendered long before prettier decorations and trees.
Thanks,

Go to you keyboard mapping and map the full ground viz to a button or key. I currently have it mapped to Shift F4. This way I can see ground details when I want to. Give a big frame rate drop though. It also is not ideal for those in the bomber scope that are still a long way from the target.
Hope this helps

this "Issue" has been hashed over lot's. I hope HT addresses it soon. I for one don't think that people with med/low end should be punished, and/or their gameplay "lacking" due to the field gun visiability.
If you have the $$ for a high end computer, you get the luxury of "seeing" ack and nme gv's from quite a distance away.
If you have a med/low end system, you have to be RIGHT on top of it to see ack/gv's (if then for some settings) and are at a huge disadvantage.
Myself, I have it at a happy medum. I use "ground" view and suffer the FPS hit when i'm eggin' gv's, and I can see the field guns from 'bout 1k out ish, so I at least have a "chance" at seein' 'em and killing them (or avoid being killed).
Granted, I only have a p4 1.4 CPU, 512MB of RDRAM, and a FX5200 128mb card, so i'm squarely in the med/low end of the scale, but well above the min. requirments.
Just a shame that us "poor" folks get discriminated against.
