When this came up on Slashdot a few months ago, one person asked why they would spend so much money on a bridge that goes straight across instead of just an elevated highway down in the valley. I responded that the germans hate to march up and down hills.

Absolutely hideous, I can't believe they did that to such a fine looking valley.

Was on Discovery channel awhile back. Was amazing how they built it on the valley sides and actually pushed the road out. Like suspending that oarnge hot wheels track between two tables about 6 feet apart and then pushing from either side until they connect in the middle. I think its a beautiful bridge, just in the wrong location.
