The basics are finished, with some minor adjustements, riveting, and weathering job left.
Tell me if you see anything wrong, or if the colors aren't right, or etc etc. It's hard to fix stuff once I enter weathering phase, so it's good if you can give feedback now.

Very nice
but shouldnt the brown be darker????
-
Not according to Mitsu's profiles.
Frankly I can't really make out the 'feeling' of the basic paint. It seems to be technically a type of "green", blended with a mix of brown to give out a "khaki" feel.. except it seems much more green/lighter than the"khaki" one would imagine.
-
Try putting a layer of grey down. then a layer of a light green. and a layer of yello. then a layer of the brown. and make the brown, yellow, and green somewhat transparent to it makes the faded color. heres what i came up with real quick

hope this helps

Very nice Kweassa! A real beauty.
I've never seen pictures of the brown scheme on Japanese a/c. I noticed your 18 Sentai Ki61 is also brown. Where'd you find pics of them?
-
The above Ki-84-Ia is according to the profile pics and paint color data provided by Mitsu in this thread (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=135347).
The reddish-brown Ki-61-I-tei is from the profile pics of the plane flown by 1st Lt. Naoto Fukunaga of the 18th Sentai, located in Java, 1944.
This profile pic can be seen in this website (http://www.marksindex.com/japaneseaviation/hien.html). Probably one of the best sources for making basic skinning templates for Ki-61s.
Admittably, the most familiar paint schemes for Japanese planes are the traditional blackish/dark-green ones, but it seems quite a lot of Japanese planes retained colorful schemes which is pretty unfamiliar to us at best.
-
The very brown Ki-61 skin is based from very very old reference.
S. Nohara drew that ki61 paint with old info a long time ago.
Kweassa, wow I'm surprised at your quick job...The meatballs on the wing is a bit big though, the color is pretty fine.
-
Do you consider this official color chart for Ki-84?
Color Chart of Japanese Aircraft #1(industry standard)
Ki-84 (IJA) painted "Green 1-1" on the upper surface.
Color Chart of Japanese Aircraft #2(industry standard)
Ki-84 (IJA) painted "Gray 2-6" on the bottom surface.
-
Mitsu, I was a bit confused on which colors to use. The profile pics of Hatano's Ki-84 uses different colors from your industry standard color charts.
I'll change the colors to the industry standard for a side-by-side comparison. You can choose which one you like better from there. I'll reduce the meatball size too.
This whole process takes only about 5 minutes, so no biggy.
Also, if you have a picture of captain Hatano, I could make a pilot skin too.
-
Thanks for changing. I'm very looking forward to your 47th Sentai Ki-84 skin.
BTW I have 2 pics of Captain Hatano.
Let me scan it later (Sorry I'm gonna work today soon).
-
I've updated the pics on the first post.
The upper pics are colors based on the profile drawing. The under pics are colors based on the color charts.
Come to think of it, the darker colors according to the color charts looks a lot more familiar now.
Which one would you like?
ps) hehehe I have a day off! neener neener! :p
-
btw yellow used these 3 colors, 4-1 or 4-2 or 4-3.
-
So, should I use the industry standard colors? Or go with the profile pic colors?
-
The FRANK with the "Home Defense Bands" was always my favorite scheme. The 84 in WARBIRDS had them if I remember right.
Question: Is the first two pics of the first post the same color as the third & forth? Seems the Darker Green looks more correct. At least from what I have seen. Is this lighting or are you trying to simulate faded paint?
Nice job BTY! ! :aok
-
If see a pic, I can do it.
Having some good results with a new template method, which reduced my skin making time by about 30%.
-
Beautiful job once again Kweassa, I really like your style. :)
BTW, have you submitted your 29th Sentai KI-84 or that Galland's E-4? Would REALLY like to see them in the MA along your 190-project skins that are ready. ;)
-
Kweassa,
YOU DA MAN!
Same goes for all the skinners. I'm sad I'm moving as all the skins are coming out. Can't wait to get back and fly some of these new babies. Especially with some of the more discrete planes (109G-2,6), new skins make you feel like flying them!
Thanks

Yes, I hope you use the industry standard color charts.
I love bottom one. :)
One Japanese AH pilot "MOG" voted bottom one too. ;)

Thanks Wmaker :) Glad it looks ok.
I've submitted the following planes:
* George Rarey's P-47D-11, "Damon's Demon"
* Adolf Galland's, Bf109E-4
* Anton Hackl's, Fw190A-6
* Kurt Buehligen's, Fw190A-8
* 29th Sentai, Ki-84-I-ko
Got all of them accepted last week, so it should be appearing in the game within a few weeks. Gonna send the next batch of skins to HTC soon(including this Ki-84, a winter-camo T-34. and a JG4 Fw190A-8).

I have no idea which one's correct. But it seems both the light brown version and the dark-green version are depicting the same colors. Probably one of those typical disagreements in WW2 plane color depiction I guess.
Like, for instance, I use a reddish-light brown paint for desert camo Bf109s, and IIRC the actual Bf109G-2 "Black 6" was restored that way. But the guys at Flugzeugwerk(IL2/FB paintschemes) use the 'yellowish tan' color for depicting desert 109s.
Since the 'vote' is in :) I'm gonna do this Ki84 by the darker green. Yeah, I was thinking it looked better too, to tell you the truth.
....
And thanks for Captain Hatano's pics :) It's a bit small, but I can do it.
-
Captain Hatano's Ki-84-I-ko finished.

*Yawn* gonna go rest.
-
AWESOME!!!!! Great JOB Kweassa!!!!! S>
-
VERY NICE! (Hats off).
!
-
Damn it, I really can't wait fly in it in MA.
-
     how do u get the scratches like that!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Hand made, best1.
I paint colors over a "metallic" layer, and then in the weathering phases, I literally 'carve' out all the scratches one by one.
It's dull and painstaking, but looks better than just producing random scratches.
-
Your skin really looks like Koike's awesome aviation art.
I hope you make the screen shot like above one for the sample image of ah-skin department. ;)
P.S
BTW didn't you try oil dirt on exhaust stacks?
Thanks.

Holy cow 48!?
-
Glad you guys like it.
Making Captain Hatano's face was a bit hard, since the picture was so small and faint. Had to go through steps almost like forensic reconstruction.... used the pic as the 'bone' layer... add muscle.. add skin.. add eyes and lips.. etc etc. :)
-
Skuzzy, when can I use this Ki-84-I-Ko which used Capt. Tei-ichi Hatano, CO of the "SAKURA" tai (3rd Chutai) of 47th Sentai in the MA...?
-
Mitsu,
Drop me an e-mail when you get a chance. Something I want to ask you. Tks.
Happy Holidays! :aok
