Hi every1; :) 2 days ago I installed Windows XP SP2 & now I've
problems accessing certain websites, to wit; http://www.brauncomustangs.org, the P51 website loaded w/info.
Prior to SP2 I was able to access any & all websites w/o problems
now I keep getting the DNS error, what can I do to access that site & any others that I'm having problems with ??? :(
Pls help :confused:

Not sure if you're having problems with other sites or not, but on this one, if you remove the comma after .org the link works. With the comma, it doesn't...

Thx mtnman ... this is a typing error, I meant to place a comma
after typing the address & NOT as part of the address .... I tried
the site from my favorite places & it still doesn't work :mad:

The broncos page loads a javascript when it loads the opening page. Windows doesn't like "java" any more so no longer bundles it with windows, so you my be missing java files. Either that or the java is turned off in your browser. Check under tools in the browser your using and find the java and make sure it on. If you can't find it you may have to DL java and install it.

Hello Maddog :) always gd hearing from u, thx for the advice, acted on ur recommendation of enabling Java, logged off & on,
tried the Brauncomustangs website & was chagrined to find the
DNS error still present :(
Going on 4 hours trying to get rid of it w/no success, tried Microsoft, Google , Spyware, virus check etc ..... all NG :confused:

you are "refreshing" the page when you go back right? Most computers are set up not to completely refresh each time they visit a site, to save on DL's. So it my just be re-loading the old page...which was the bad page. Make sure your refreshing

Ooops ... :p sorry... was too overjoyed w/my success ( at long last) that I forgot to tell HOW I did it...on 1 of Google's sites I
found the answer that if everything failed check or reset ur MO-
DEM. I updated my modem & everything's working well now :)
LOL...fuse & Maddog nope I was typing the addy correctly .. hope
this info helps ... it did me after hours of research :aok

Darn this is frustrating ...does any1 have any solutions to this ??

sounds like your modem may be crappin out :( If resetting it cleared up the problem, and its going away again, try resetting it again. I know thats the first thing tech support tells me to do any time I call the cable company about my stuff... even if I'm just checking on my bill balance :D

you said resetting the modem cleared it up for about 1 day and everything worked then you lost it again.....
are you using a router as well?
if so does your router have a type of connection leased time setup? to where you can set a certian amount of time for each connection you use has, ranging from hrs to days to indefinite/permanent?
this may not apply, but my dsl router has a setup like this where I mark certian connections for "permanent leased"
btw you said modem, did not read if you was dial up or high speed.........just a thought

Happy, if you could answer a couple of questions I may be able to help you.
1. Connection type, from your posts I'm ass-u-ming dial-up, right?
2. Do you have the SP2 firewall turned on? Right click on Network Neighborhood, properties. Your connection will have a lock on it. Turn this off when flying AH. This should not prevent DNS queries though.
3. While connected to the internet go to a command prompt and type ipconfig /all. your looking for the DNS servers. (post that information here)
4. Does your ISP want you to manually enter DNS servers? Many do this autmatically now. SP2 may have reset your TCP/IP protocol settings.
Things to try.
From the ipconfig info try and ping the DNS server addresses.
from a command prompt type:
ping ipaddress
Most DNS servers will respond to a ping if they exist. you should get a reply to them.
If your getting a reply from the DNS servers try this.
at a command prompt type:
ipconfig /flushdns (this will clear the dns cache)
nslookup hostname (i.e. http://www.hitechcreations.com)
you should get something back like this:
H:\>nslookup http://www.hitechcreations.com
Server: jaxbdc1.bbri.com
Address: 10.5.200.13
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: http://www.hitechcreations.com
Address: 216.91.192.19
The answer section is what you are looking for and it should be the same as you see here. If you get nothing something liek server not found then you definately have a DNS problem.

Found it, read it, applied it & my DNS errors are all gone :D
