LOL I told ya so. (http://www.crownvic.us/movies/snowtowcar.wmv)

Bah, that guy should be happy those parts were removed. The plastic bumper wouldn't actually do anything to protect him anyway, so it was just needless weight. Plus maybe he'll get rid of that go-kart and buy an actual car.
I can't help but notice that the movie was linked from CV forums. The CV/GM has a helpful metal loop built into the frame on the bottom for towing with ropes or J-hooks, as well as the usual connection points for T-hooks. I've had to tow my wife's GM out of mud puddles and ditches a few times and it's always effortless as long as there's a tractor or something handy.

and it's a good thing. Cars are built safer, are more reliable, and get much better gas mileage than they used to.
That car actually lost it's rear body panel, that's why the tail lamps and the rr bumper went. You can hear the spot welds tearing loose. The eye that they hooked to wasn't engineered to yank it out of a snowbank. It's simply there to fasten the car down for when it was shipped. Thats either a geo storm or an isuzu impulse. Both manufactured overseas. That eye wasn't meant for some bonehead to get a running go and jerk the car out of a snowbank.

Streetstang,
I hope you wipe the driver's seat after you finish your journey. (http://www.zen33071.zen.co.uk/xmas.gif)

Wouldn't catch me driving either one of those anymore than ya would me catch me in a 109g10 :D

lol

That bumper is designed to take an impact (compression) not a yank (tension). Nevertheless, it did come off pretty easily. I used to have a rope that was 100’ long and about 1.5 “ in diameter. My roommate and I would jump huge snow banks in my old VW bug. When we would get stuck we would tie the big rope from my bug to his truck. He could get a major running start, like 25 mph, and yank my bug out. The rope was long enough that it offered a bit of stretch and elasticity. Still, it was like a catapult launch. I’m sure a modern car would have been torn apart though.

With as many guys as they had there they shoulda just picked it up and carried it out.
I agree though they dont make em like they used to.
They do get better gas milage
though if they are more reliable or not is a matter for debate
most reliable car I ever owned was a 68 Chevelle
The main reason why they are safer is you dont see too many older cars getting into accidents with em.
That Car gets into a Headon with say, a 57 Chevy Bel Aire and I'd rather be the one in the bel Aire without question.

I agree. Survived a headon accident between my 77 LTD and a semi-truck with a gravel dump trailer. The car was totalled, but I did some major damage to the truck too lol.
-
Cars, schmars..they don't make KIDS like they used to, apparently. What duffuses.

I don't see how you could debate reliability. electronic ignition and fuel injection by themselves are huge advances over the old points systems ("don't leave the key on you'll burn 'em up!") How bout trying to crank up a carbeurated engine when it's 15 degrees outside? lesse here, pump the gas 5 times, then hold it down as you crank? (not too much she'll flood!) easy for you and me, but what about the old lady down the road?
EFI is soo much better.
In your '57 chevy vs. the lil geo, your right, the geo will be hurt, but yer gonna be gettin a steering wheel sammich in yer 57 chevy. You have a lap belt only, which does a good job of slingshotting your head dashward when nailed in the front. the dude in the geo might have less injuries than you would.
Modern cars are made to give. You're like an egg in a pillow, pillows gonna fold, egg doesn't. The airbag has saved many lives. Back "when they built 'em right" you could hit something and the car wouldn't give as much but you could expect to eat the steering wheel or get the ol steering column spear in your chest.
Don't get me wrong, I like older cars too. But you've got to be realistic.

Milenko, get back online! You are AWOL! Lizrd, me and Bigmax had a blast last night, just like old times. The game is a lot of fun now.
-
57 chevies didn't even have lap belts.

The difference between old cars & new cars.
Old cars: Took less damage overall in the crash. Tended to kill and/or main the occupants.
New cars: Evaporate fairly easily during accidents, but have much higher survival rates for the occupants.
What that video shows: Kids are stupid.
Personally, I'd rather have my car looking like somebody went crazy on it with a jackhammer, and be able to walk away from the accident. As opposed to a car that only needs a panel or 2 replaced, while I look like I tried to fight it out with Mike Tyson.

Those kids are total lazy morons. Did you see the bank they were trying to pull that car through. Dumbprettythanges lolh. They woould have pulled that thing out easy if they weren't lazy little pu44ys and shovled a little first.
Bwahhhhhahahahha they got what they deserved, a lesson the hard way hahahahahahaha, I know I had my share lol.
