Title: What will give me best performance?

P 3.4Ghz
2 gig DDR2 SDRAM
GeForce 6800 GTO 256mb Vid Card
160 gig HD
Win XP Pro

This is what I have now and would like suggestions on what Video or System settings will give me the best performance. All settings are at default. My framerate in full view mode is usually at 90 but will drop to 30's when I get near furball. While this is playable I would like to be able to keep the performance on level.

Makes no sense to me....

I'm running a Ti4200 on a DFI lanparty/Athlon 64 3200+ with 1gig of pc3200 ram. I've got nowhere near the drop off oyu have ~60-75 normally and 45 or so in furball or over burning base....

No way you should be in low 30's at default in a furball....

*** unless your running poor/slow memory***

If you have PC2100 0r PC2700 memory your slowing your whole system down...

He's running DDR2 RAM.  Its a little slower, but he has 2 gigs of it.  My guess is something taking up CPU resources.
