Title: More playing with P38s
Post by: Guppy35 on December 23, 2004, 04:19:11 PM
Decided to try and match up some inflight P38 images to AH screen shots.

Kinda liked this one with everything hanging out on landing.  Doesn't appear the AH 38's flaps extend as far as the real deal.

you took the screen shot at a slightly different angle, in the real picture you are able to see some of the cockpit, in yours you cannot. If it were at the exact same angle im sure the flaps would look more extended.

Looks like AH's landing gear is backa  bit farther then the real deal also.
and one of the panels on the right wing(left side of picture) by the insignia should be moved slightly to the left.

Damn you perfectionists.
See what you got me doing

No matter how I moved it I couldn't get the exact angle.  Not sure why that was.  But from any angle the flaps don't look down as far as the real thing.

Not complaining btw, just an observation

The space between left flap and right flap are not the same either.  Flaps are longer on photo then on the AH p38.

Guppy, decrease the FOV (field of view) before going outside.

Notice the slight distortion the default zoom gives?  Somewhat of a fish-eye...

Internal zoom brackets alter FoV
External zoom brackets alter 'camera' distance from plane.  So, find that same angle you have in hte screenshot, then...
-hit F2
-zoom in with the normal Z and [ ]
-go back in external with F3 or F4

That might help a tad with the picture matching.

Might be a little better.  Still can't get it to look exact

Not sure, but no navigation lights, landing light or pitot head on the AH bird.  Wonder how we know how fast we're going? :)

They do, and the flaps the opposite, plus the aforementioned space between them seems off.

Edit:  No worries though, if the new 38 comes off as well as the Ki84 did it will look unreal  :aok

I just judge it by the intensity and length of the grinding metal sound on touchdown. :D
  Cool shots there bud.

wing tips look a bit off in the ah version, tho with as few polygons as the ah one has it looks ok.
