Here's an idea to heighten the realism:
How about allowing a pilot to successfully land his kills even if he bails, as long as he makes it back to a friendly field?
He would have to evade the enemy and avoid capture by hiding among the trees. He would have to walk back to base or be rescued by a friendly aircraft, boat or vehicle. Any vehicle or boat would work, but only a multiple-seat aircraft could land and rescue a downed pilot.
The person rescueing the pilot would get points for successfully bringing him back to base.
The enemy could kill the bailed-out pilot or capture him. If a player captures a bailed-out pilot, he would also 'capture' his kills.
comments?

Everything but capturing his kills. Perhaps taking what little perks he might have recieved :) As long as we can get the PBY, I'm all for it :)

Landed 1.0
Ditched .75
Bailed .5
Captured .4
Discoed .25
Killed .25
Crashed .25
You still get MOST of your points if you bail succ. near/on friendly field, just don't get the "SYSTEM" msg.
-
One major flaw in your idea. If you get shot down and had to bail out, you really didn't land your mission successfully. If you want to get a successful landing credit, land your airplane. Easy enough.
ack-ack

I really doubt many people would hang around waiting for a rescue craft when they could just hit "tower" and be back in the fight sooner.
PBY's, etc. would be great for scenarios though.

You mean to tell me you can actualy land in this game? I mean really?
Learn something new everyday.

Yep. Way I hear tell it, the landing gear goes back down, as well as goin up! Amazin what they can do with technology these days aint it? Next thing you know they'll give you prizes, or points or somethin if you can manage to bring er down on the runway again. Man what a game!

rescue a pilot, they owe you a life debt.

I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and
causes me to tremble for the safety of my country.... Corporations have
been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and
the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by
working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated
in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.

You post this in the wrong forum or is it just way too late for me to figure out how it relates? :D

what is the "penalty" for losing a plane then?
what about the innocent farmer JimBob who's house your hulk of burning wreckage crashes into, killing his wife, newborn triplets, the family cat, bessie the cow, countless rats, little jimbob jr's pet sheep?
you just dont care about ANYONE do you?
poor JimBob... all he wanted to do was raise a good wholesome sheep loving family.

Have you engaged any aces in combat yet? I chased one for 4 sectors the other day. He would not even risk landing under ack cover. I am sure had he run out of fuel and bailed out he would wait for hours to be picked up. :D

debating whether or not to change my sig...just so it really does become off topic and unrelated to anything.
that said...dont you go thinking for even a second that any corporation is going to pick you up out of the bone chilling deep blue shark infested drink, offer you warm clothes and some sunscreen, a hot meal and a cigarette...no, those bastards'l take you to the rotten bottom of the ship, chain you to a plastic bench and whip you while you row to the beat of thier stock ticker.

I believe by "Ace" you mean "Rank Monkey".
Everytime I run into my definition of an "Ace", I don't live through it...... But, man! What a blast!
It seems like everytime I run into a rank monkey I end up either:
A) killing them (assuming I have faster plane)
B) killed by a HO I'm trying to avoid ("but it was a deflection!" - "well it was only a friggin deflection because I was trying to avoid your HO you moron!")
C) killed by a cherry pick
D) killed by their ack
E) bored.
I rarely meet someone with very low rank who will try their best in an even 1 v 1 unless I happen to be in a faster plane and can force them to. A few people do, to be sure. But they are not, from what I've seen, the majority.

If you look at "overall" rank, then you are looking in the wrong place ... look at fighter rank only. This tells who is fighting and who is not. Now there are different styles of fighting, but for the most part, those who have a lower ranking in this category will fight.

...then there some like me that will fight but just are no damn good at it :) Had a nice 262 vs. 262 fight this weekend - I forget who it was, I died horribly after a few minutes but it was fun anyway.

Sorry Zanth ... you absolutly right ... but these are the ones that WILL get better ... its inevitable.

Yup... always check out Kills/Time in the fighter rank area, tells you who flys like a nancyboy at 20k, and who is skimming the tree tops.
-
I am not sure Slap. I was flying with TC last night (or getting him killed would be more descriptive) and after several low flights where we were engaged by atlist 8 or 10 cons (lots of fun) we decided to hit them from above. After 21 minutes at 10k I had 8 HO and run attempts. I mean, they did not turn back ever. They flew out of range. Finally I run out of fuel and diched.
Looking at the film, they were all good pilots (if you look at pilot rank)

Sounds like a nice idea :)
After all, the real pilots did keep their kill counts even when they were shot down.
This would naturally only affect the kill count, not points or perks. It would be fun for sake of kill streaks. Points and perks would still go along the current system. Stats should be updated to include the kill strek section.
Kills could be kept only when exiting on a friendly runway or hangar like nowadays.
The game system should be updated to allow picking up pilots and riding on others' vehicles or planes to make it work.
