President Bush assembled a four-nation coalition to organize humanitarian relief for Asia and made clear Wednesday the United States will help bankroll long-term rebuilding in the region leveled by a massive earthquake and tsunamis.
Seems like the US has "bypassed" the respected UN once again....to everyone's horror
-
LOL Russia says it will no longer give free rides to US astronauts
going to space staion .
My guess is they cant afford to help SE Asia.

Nuke,
Have you also looked at that what the invidual countries have done, outside of the UN?
Remember that the USA is part of the UN, why didn't they push it in there?
Oh yeah, you can act alone too and blame the UN instead.
Other countries might have acted on their own, but they are not blaming the UN for it.

They busy brewing badazz booze!!!
Keep it ETIHW???

NUKE, just fyi
Initial aid from germany has been raised to 20 million euro yesterday, that's about 27 million USD. The US contributed 35 million USD in an initial aid package.
These numbers change everyday though, and I can't be bothered right now to make sure they're up to date.
Granted, the US government contributed more, but please don't make it sound like the rest of the world is just standing by.
I'm not and my government isn't either, I just don't have a say in how many my government contributes.
I donated everything I was going to invest in fireworks this year.

Hey moment... i saw Russia to form alliance to help SE asia few days ago... Why US didnt join ?????

I think that potencial leader and coordinator should be Spain
As of Wednesday evening, more than $250 million had been pledged from countries around the world. The biggest single contribution announced so far was $68 million from Spain.

Not to beat our own drum..but some people forget that Florida was knocked out by 4 hurricanes. The total repairs for will run into the billions.. People still do not have roofs or jobs that are no longer here... Theres no free money to help rebuild our state.. yet we'll be sending millions of dollars to help the effected areas Asia. Perhaps you guys should dwell on that as well...

Ah horse****. Florida's damage was to homes and business, the damage in Asia is far more than that and growing worse by the hour.
-SW
-
The hurricanes that hit Florida was without a doubt devestating and tragic to those it affected. Some doesnt have jobs? Well, atleast they have water, food, shelter and hospitals.
This is something far worse tho, not only the lives lost but many places that was hit was poor to begin with. Florida isnt a poor state compared to places like Sri Lanka.

Personal attack. Why the personal attack?
I'm not trying to "score" points over a disaster. I'm ridiculing the useless UN once again and pointing out how utterly useless the UN is in dealing with anything.
Bush is correct in forming an alliance outside the UN to deal with this disaster.....maybe the money and aid will actually get to the victims instead of the pockets of the UN thieves.
The UN is a useless entity.

It would have been just as bad in Fla if we did not have the early warning system that we have.
There is the real tragedy.

Specially for you.
France, Italy and Russian rescue teams are working there. Also, Russian IL-76 are working on delivery humanitary help. Also, Russian goverment is working now on monetary aid to help Shri-Lanka to get out of a crisis.
So. Where are americans and UN?

The last offer of help that I heard from France was $136,000. I don't know how their rapid response works for International emergencys so I won't be judgemental.

You know we are talking about mississippi and not the recent incident right?
-
And what did we pledge to France when they had the heat wave that killed so many? Rich countries very rarely bail other rich countries out at all. One of the luxuries of being a rich country, like the USA or France, is that we can take care of our own.
I cannot believe the hate that spews from some of the members of this community. It is absolutely sickening the depths you eagerly plumet to in order to defame those you dislike.
To use an event like this to attack with lies and twisted propaganda is utterly revolting. Have you no shame? My revulsion at what this community has become since 2001 is difficult to put into words. It is as though it has been hijacked by the worst, most spiteful and hateful elements it had to offer. Extremists so blind that all they can do is attack, attack, attack. Nothing matters but your petty little idealologies. That is all that seems real to some of you and the world we live in is treated as an irrelevant veil.
Absolutely pathetic.

"Real generosity is doing something nice for someone who'll never find out" - Frank Clark
-
Let me put it this way, if this thread were to be taken as fact one would believe that Russia sent a very little, Germany nothing and France a mere $136,000.
Well, looking a little and this is what I've found that some Western countries have donated:
USA: 35 million, but this is just the begining of what we'll send.
Spain: 54 million donated, 14 million in loans
France: 57 million
Sweden: 75 million
UK: 95 million
A quote from your most hated man, Koffi Anan:
"Let me say that in this particular instance the response has been very good."
According to this board, the UN has singled out the USA for ridicule for not giving enough when the comment was directed at all the wealthy nations. Think G-8.
Some of the people here with a huge anti-France, anti-Germany, anti-Russia and anti-UN chip on their shoulder couldn't let this disaster pass by without using it as a soapbox to attack and defame the objects of their scorn.
-
Speaking of Bangledesh.
I wonder how much aid they recieved in 1991 when 130,000+ died. Sucks when your country doesn't have any cool beachs and hotels, or thousands of tourists died.
How many (I pat myself on the back) gave then.
-
Just for Nuke. Everyone else, please do ignore.

Not to take sides in this retarded thread, Fishu, but you did read the part about Bush offering to bankroll the rebuilding of the region, didn't you?
How much do you suppose THAT is going to cost?
What is significant about all this is that so many nations have pulled together, put aside their differences, rolled up their sleeves, and pitched in to aid in a massive HUMANITARIAN EFFORT.
A big to all nations involved!

You are the ignorant one. I never once compaired the amount of aid the US is offering to any other country.
I was pointing out that the UN was being bypassed by the US. Did you even read my posts?
The point being that the UN is once again shown to be totally useless. In fact, by bypassing the UN, the aid and money will actually get to the victims.

USA has increased the aid to 350 millions.

Other invidual countries have acted also.
They aren't slamming the UN.

I'm not going to follow your link because I hate it when people do not make their own points based on their own opinions. Links are fine as a reference.
If you want to get into the facts about how well the UN handles relief funds, look no further than the billions squandered through the "oil for food" program rum by the UN.
The UN is useless to the US. Any aid the US gives out should not be filtered through the crooks at the UN but rather they should be directed in a manner that WE decide, through nations WE want to work with in giving out OUR money and aid.

Better check these figures again ...It's 350 million. when It's over it will exceed several Billion. It's wise for one to engage their brain before they put their mouth in gear. Other wise just noise comes out.

Wealsan,
You're an arrogant idiot.
You don't even start to think, you just lash out.
It was 35 million when he posted that. And worse, for your idiotic little mind, Fishu already posted that the US's aid had been boosted to 350 million.
Idiot.
