Well, I'm havin it badly lately, it seems that I am going through different phases of fighting techniques...
You might have noticed that I fly the 190 98% of the time (1% Goon/ 1% Buff) and my K/D ratio is going dooooooooown for the moment, I just can't hit a thing anymore !
Reason is here : I am not folowing Cons anymore, I mean not at all, when I see one going for a Split S , I jut go Up, recover E and get on top of him & go down again.... Thing is whe I am in the last seconds (Killing position) I tend to be VERY E greedy and just wont blow it AT ALL to get that kill (max 3G turn)... sigh sigh sigh...are there any pills to cure me ? Saintaw,
You don't want to be cured. Following a Spit through the break in the FW 190a8 will just get you killed. Face it, if a Spit knows you're there your chances of killing him in a 190a8 is slim at best. Better to climb up on your perch and find a more cooperative target.

I just went from a 1.5 K/D ratio to 0/7 !!!!!!!!
GAWD help me !

Saintaw,
I removed AH and reinstalled completely when 1.2 came out. And its been ALL BAD since.
I cant even hit the bloody ground if i tried...
I lost my JS setup and im just tweaking it again now.
Sigh, like yourself i went from 1.5 K/D to 0.9 or so - was 23rd now 123rd (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
It might the FPS cause thats dropped since 1.2 - i dont know...

Nothing wrong with the framerate here (30 to 40 fps in 1280/1024). I had a phase like this 3 months ago when I suddenly stopped going under my opponent's belly for a Kill...
Weird...
-
Oohhhh Sharky...so what do you suggest? that when we are a Fw190 and we see a Spitfire we must say "He's going to kill me I'm not in?"
HEH! ARE YOU CRAZY????...
Saw, its easy. Fw190 has a powerful punch. You can aim for the snapshot, dont try to pull harder, you must preview the enemy's next move. put your nose there and BOOOM! spit is history.
My favorite enemy when I am on Fw190 is a Spit... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I always win...or at least He doesnt win me (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Ah, Sharky, when you want, let me jump you from 7K avobe on my fw190 you in Spit, and see if I kill you or not (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Anytime Bud, With the exception of the lucky snapshot, the best you can hope for is a draw.

Darnit Saw, whatever you have is contagious because I've caught it as well. I went from being ranked 9th in K/D ratio at slighty over 4:1 to under 2:1 in the course of about 3 days. my aim went in the perverbial tiolet as well. If you find that miracle cure let me know. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Right now I'm going to go have a couple pints of Guinness and see if that improves matters. Must be a virus - my flying lately has sucked greatly too. Just oprior to the tour shift, I started to do good - if I did not count my 38(!) disco's, my k/d ratio would be great.
Only 2 discoes this far (this time real discos, not caused by my puter but by connection) and only a few kills, and I've been shot two times, missed two glider landings and augered in once.
*sigh*
Hope it'll go away soon.

I've shifted my objective this tour from having a high K/d ratio, always surviving sorties and getting high rank to...
killing as many ground targets as I can find with JABO attacks.
smashing those damn ack gattling guns to bits with rockets (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
rescuing anyone with a bandit on their tail at all costs.
digital death is trivial to me now.
it's more fun to live dangerously as possible.

All worthy goals in my eyes Citabria (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) I allways try to have a high kill to death ratio and try to land my sorties but sometimes I do let it get a bit out of hand. Though I must admit no kill is as sweet swooping down from up on high and clearing a countryman's tail. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Saw,
Just remember, virtual life is not a smooth curve by any means. While at times you may reach fairly smooth going, it can at any time
go sour.
It happens to us all, & has had various terms described to it. "The Slump!" "pitsville",
or just plain "flying like toejam".
Do not dispair, it will not last forever.
For me the best medicine has always been to learn a new plane. Jump in that spit you love to kill and relearn firsthand how that 190 can kill you. The shock will cure your current problems, and heck, you might even find you enjoy it now & then.
Pick a plane & a style of flying totally diferent than what you have been doing. The more drastic the change, the faster it works.
Been in a bit of a long slump myself. Good luck on handleing yours!

EEEK !!! I SAY (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif) !!! Flying in a sissyfire ??? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
OK, will do (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
-
Yep he who flies only one plane is lost.
-
Also bear this in mind. If you are chasing a breakturning spitfire, you don't HAVE to follow his exact flight path (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Situation: He's 700 yds in front of your closing 190 and he does a break turn low and left. If you're doing 300 MPH it's going to take youabout 5 seconds before you get to the 'elbow' of his turn.
Why not use that time to displace your flight path away from his break direction, opening up your turn? While he pulled 5g's to break, you might only have to pull 3g's to follow him.
He breaks - you displace and lag him. The added advantage is that he never gets a chance to rest or recover energy.
Even a Spitfire has got to run out of E sometime!

I wonder if "scorepotato" burnout is typical as I too have been defending heavily capped airfields and going head-to-head with acks. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif)

Haf the same problem a while back SAW .. found that i wasn't AGRESSIVE enough .. for example:
you come in with all your horded E on his 6 .. high closure and he's breaking low ..
old Duck -> Pull up .. grind teeth .. rinse and repeat till his buddies show up and blow me away
new Duck -> make a high speed turn to a side (prefered the bottom side of the target) and then follow low -> see this as a nose low spiral.. he'll most probably loose sight on you, because he expects you to go UP and be on his high 6 again ... instead you're on his 7-9 clk with stilll heaps of E. Most pilots tend to straighten out and look where you are when they lost you (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
and then get the hell outta DODGE to grab some alt ..
Cyas UP there !

Something that I have found to work very well against 1 v 1 Pony (me) vs Spit is too approach slightly differently.
In a fight with many planes in view, you don't want to do this, but if its just you and the spit its fairly safe.
Typically when you bounce one, you come in from high 6, this allows him to see you and time the patented split S defensive perfectly.
So what you do is shadow him like you typically do, then about 3k in 2k drop below him agressively, to get to his slightly low 6, but with lots of speed (around 400IAS typically). Now your in his blind spot.
He has to either turn or begin his break already to bring you back into visual, which means you can lead turn/roll into his manuever and get the shot off. Or he loses sight and you get an easy shot off anyways. Either way, you have the initiative instead of him.
Try it it works.

We all go through slumps! I've been through some nasty ones, although lately I seem to be doing OK. Occassionally I'll have a couple of sessions where I'm sudenly a totally uber pilot who can take rediculous chances and come out on top. Mostly though, that happens for about one sortie, I get cocky, and then I die repeatedly for a week at least. <G>
If you are an FW pilot... are you using barrel roll attacks and lag displacement rolls? Once I learned how to do it, the barrel roll attack became my bread & butter in the P47 and FW. Lag displacement rolls are very important too. The key to being aggressive in an E fighter like the FW without getting dead is to use lag persuit at all times unless you are about to shoot with a very high chance of destroying the target. This will conserver your E while you wait for the perfect opportunity to pull lead and kill him. You can be much more aggressive and still survive if you use lag persuit.
It is difficult to balance aggression and E fighting, but walking that fine line is what makes succeeding in an E fight so much fun!
I don't have time right now, but when I get home tonight I'll describe a barrel roll attack and lag displacement rolls for everyone. How and when to use them included. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Thank you Master (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I use lag displacement rolls even in planes like the 205. With it's great accel and climbing ability, you can easily get inside a low spit if he tries to break turn on you. Basically all you need to do is roll away and pull just a few g's. You will gain a little alt and gain a little separation. Then you roll back into the other guy. You will now be right on his 5 or 7 oclock position with a huge speed advantage. You can at least get a close range snapshot before using that speed to get out of the area.
I know exactly what you mean about K/d going down. I ALWAYS do terrible for the first two weeks of a tour. It seems you always end up in a 1 vs 3 with an alt disadvantage. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) This tour I got blasted out of the sky 3 times before I was even able to fire a single round at another plane. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to play for the past few days, so I haven't been able to fly for more than 5 hours this whole tour. (I plan on playing tonight though. What you describe is using lag persuit to get yourself into a high yoyo. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I'll try to describe a barrel roll attack tonight. Need pictures. <G>
