Hello,
Well this new im buliding PC will have my first SATA HD and since i dont use the primary ide jack anymore for the HD do i now plug in the optical drives into the primary ide jack or still to the secondary?
MB is asus a8v
Thanks

Does not matter which one you use, but i would use the primary and set your optical drive as master.
You could then disable the secondary ide channel freeing up some resources.

Actually, it might make a difference, depending on how the BIOS is configured.
Look in the motherboard manual. There ususally is a roadmap on how to confure a mix of IDE and SATA devices in order to keep from using external drivers.
Typically, with Award BIOS's, when you have SATA + IDE devices and you want the SATA drives to act like normal (not RAID), you leave the first IDE channel enabled, and not connected to anything and connect CD/DVD drives to the second IDE bus connector.
The SATA drives act like normal IDE devices then and will not require any external/third party drivers.
