Rotaries:
In the control panel test in Windows they are working fine.
I have gone into AH joystick selection and have set the rotaries to roll and pitch trim respectively. When I turn them I can see the value changing in that screen.
BUT when I go to "settings" in the AH Joystick set-up screen and select either trim function they do not show up at all. No graph, no movement on the right hand screeen.
When I take a plane up turning the rotaries does nothing..nada.
Mini-Mouse:
I wanted to set the axis to do the following:
Push it up...flaps up
Push it down...flaps down
Push it right...map zoom out
Push it left...map zoom in
How can I do this?
Also: The mini-mouse seems to be conflicting with my regular mouse. The cursor will move on its own to the top of my screen. I can control it with the mini-mouse with no profiles loaded and with my mouse...but for about 15 minutes after booting up my machine the cursor wants to go north on my monitor.
NUKEUSB:
I read Alf's review of the X52 and he recommended running NUKEUSB after removing my old X45. This makes sense, but I cannot find a copy of NUKEUSB anywhere.
A totally fresh load of the X52 would probably sort out these problems but I cannot seem to totally unload the drivers so that I can reinstall completely.
I have read where in order to get the rotaries and the second mouse hat to operate properly I need updated drivers. BUT Saitek's download page has NO X52 listed...just the X45. I did try to use the drivers only, after uninstallling the X52, but when the screen prompted my to plug the stick in it would not allow me to finnish the install.

Do you have combat trim on in AH? I was wondering the same thing, but then I noticed that the CT wouldn't automatically turn off when using rotaries to adjust trim.
Mini-Mouse:
I think there was an answer to this question in Saitek's forum. The mini-mouse cannot (as far as I know) be programmed anymore since there is some kind of limit on analog axes in DirectX - thus the mini-mouse can only be used as a mouse for now.
EDIT: I found this (requires registration) in Saitekforum (http://www.saitekforum.com/showthread.php?t=6299)
Direct X only supports 8 axes natively and the stick uses 7 before it gets to the mini stick; the axes on the mini stick aren't recognised by Direct X so games won't pick them up unless you program them.

If you want to program it with keyboard commands you'll need to band it - read the Axis Programming section of the SST Manual for how to use this.
So, it appears that you can add keyboard commands to the mini-stick by using the band functionality of the SST software.

I do have Combat Trim on...but even when I toggle it off the rotaries do nothing.:(

Nukeusb is in your "C:\Program Files\Saitek\Drivers" assuming you installed to the defaults.

I have the X45 so not sure that it totally applies. For the X45 rotaries to work in AH you have to set up the rotaries to be active and under what type of setting.
The control panel test menus don't mean that the rotaries have been made active for other programs to use. You have to go the the extra step to profile the rotaries to be available for other apps.
For my X45 I have to use the saitek profiler to set them up appropriately. You can set them up as "axis" for pure absolute rotary control for trim or "bands" to setup the rotaries to be keypresses for trim.

I've been eyeing the X52 myself. The X45 has a lot stiffer springs that I don't like and prefer the much lighter springs in the X52.

in my x45 (i know not x52) the rotaries work properly in game, but the joystick wave graph does not show movement for them
just in case try this. make sure in the programming software they are assigned as analog.
delete the jstick.cfg in the AH settings folder.
start AH, and before anything calibrate the stick, move all axis especially the rotaries.
goto select joystick and assign axis, when you get the the rotaries the numbers should go up and down if you move them.
try in game if the adjust trim with all auto pilots off.
like i said my dont show as moving on the wave graph but work just fine.
lastly, if you had an x45 you probably know that the rotary generally used as elevator trim is backwards in AH and you have to invert the axis in the js settings of AH

I have X45 and X52 rotors work fine as trims in AH

I cannot get AH to see the large top rotary on my X52 ...........it sees all other X52 anologs.
When you calibrate JS make sure you calibrate the analogs also.
When you want to test trim functions make sure combat trim is off. (sure you know this anyway)
Re the mouse pointer and wheel etc.
You have to band the mouse pointer into 3 bands (using the profile software that was on the disc accompanying your X52) for both the X axis and the Y axis
The centre band for each axis you leave as No output. You then give the Q and W keys for the up down extremes appropriately. And the ins and del for your map zoom on the horizontal.
If you want to use the mouse wheel and buttons then you must profile these also with key stroke commands.
On the wheel in particular its better to use advanced commands such that the fleeting contact made by wheel up or down returns a full key stroke (press,hold,release) with a .5 sec hold.
I use the wheel for flaps and the wheel button for dive brakes.
The mouse button I use for engine toggle (e).
My Mouse pointer is set to
up= select secondary
down= bomb door toggle
left = calibration mode toggle
right= calibrate sight.
All other X52 out puts are DX buttons that AH can read directly so I set these in AH.
I do not us ethe Mode selector as one set of functions on the X52 are about as many as I can remember.

Tilt, does the x52 no longer allow the mouse nub thingy to be a "hat"?
my x45 i do similar, forward / back is shift / flaps
up / down is engine / gear
i have it programmed as a 4 way hat in the control software

Not that I have found
I spoke to Saitek on this. The Mouse functionality of this device was not great on the X45 so they made it (cursor control) the default set up on the X52 requiring use of the profiler to return it to other functions.
Saitek considered that mouse functionality was what HOTAS should provide.
Basically I wanted every thing to have an alternate DX function but the mouse does not and the whilst the wheel does its out put is so transient that you have to use the profiler to hold a signal for stuff to see it.
On the X45 I had no profile running and just used the default DX outputs for the mouse thingy.

There is a graph in the left window that appears for Roll and Rudder but NONE for the Roll Trim and Pitch trim.
In the right window I see no movement at all after I calibrate, assign the rotaries and then go to the settings page. I do see movement for throttle roll and pitch though...just none at all for trim.
Should I see movement or are you saying you see nothing in both windows?
Tilt...my first attempts at "banding" was a disaster. It caused all sorts of weirdnes in Windows.

I just checked, my rotaries still work as expected for the trims. I just set them up to be axises in the profiler and map them with the AH joystick selector.
I also mapped the mouse thingy with the bands to perform as key presses, since the mouse wasn't actually very useful. Now I've got so much controls that it's hard to remember what each of them does without even trying to add the different modes...

I never liked banding on the X45 but I must say even with Win 98E the banding on the x52 is seamless. Plus running this profiler seems to effect system loading far less than the X45 one I had before.

AH sees the POV as an axis (analog variable) hence to AH the stick is trying to output 8 axes.

One question:

Do you mean axis?
In the programming software I get 4 choices:
1. Axis
2. Bands
3. Mouse x axis
4. Mouse y axis
Mine are both set to axis.

IT WORKS!!!!!
It can be one of two things that was the problem.
I had AH1 installed, which also has a stick.cfg file in it. I blew that file way and then in the AH2 folder and started again from scratch..calibrating, assigning j/s etc.
Amazingly it worked.
Then I noticed I had erased my entire profile by making one change and then saving that one change only to the same filename.
So it was either the profile file was messed up...from so many changes etc., or my stick was trying to work with the other .cfg file. Probably the profile though I imagine.
I redid my profile, saved it ...and bingo.

I think witht he mini stick you can make it into two buttons not four
I have it send a check 6 when I flip it up and toggle gear when I flick it down - nothing on the left/right movement

You can make it to be four buttons, by creating another band on the x-axis of the ministick. I have now mapped up/down for zooming and left/right for wheel brakes.
