Title: Ping Plotter Help
Post by: Fiction on January 03, 2005, 06:07:47 PM
Having connection issues so Im trying to get ping plotter to show me whats happening between me and the MA.

When I run PP I don't get any of the hops included its just a straight line from my modem to the MA.  Can someone please tell me what it is I haven't configured correctly or what I need to do to see the hops in between.

Thanks

Not sure if its correct but the PL% column is the Packets Lost percentage ? If so how come I'm getting a round trip time.  I have the first hop (my ADSL modem) then 18 hops with 100 in the PL column and no info then the MA with the times Avg, cur etc ?

Could be a firewall setting or something preventing the pings from going back and forth, thats the first thing I'd check. Also, double check your using the correct server address.
Main Arena Server Address: 216.91.187.39
All other arenas: 216.91.187.38

Fiction,

can you ping 216.91.187.39  from the command prompt?

if that works then run tracert 216.91.187.39  that will give you the same information

Hi Heater,

yeh I have pinged from the command prompt and I get similar return times as to whats coming back in Ping Plotter.  Its something that has me confused, that I can get a return time from the MA but no hops displayed along the route.

BUT tracert doesn't work, it gives pretty much the same info as I'm getting from PP, its only going as far as the ADSL modem only I'm getting a return time for the MA with PP but only the modem with tracert.

thx

Your ISP may have U behind a NAT.  Mine was behind a NAT till last year.

Ok Dog, rang my ISP and they said I am behind a NAT but it would not affect my ability to ping the MA.  I gave the operator the IP addr of MA and she was able to get route info back.  What she did say tho was the modem I am using (which they supplied) does not allow tracing or is not capable (DynaLink RT 100+), so its been said somewhere in the IT dept.  I have a spare modem which I will connect and configure this weekend. I'll keep you posted.

Cheers

Fixed the problem, downloaded the shareware version of ping plotter 2.0 and used UDP packets.  All the hops inbetween me and the MA are visible now.  Thanks to those who replied, to help me get this resolved.
