Heinkel He 100D
Here is a good website about this aircraft: http://www.csd.uwo.ca/~pettypi/elevon/baugher_other/he100.html

Isn't He-100D are the same as Bf 109D?

No, the Heinkel is some 120mph faster than the Bf109D. It was a 400+mph fighter in 1939/40 powered by the same engine as the 350mph Bf109E of the same period...
The Luftwaffe was very good like that, passing up superbly performing aircraft. Another example is that FW was ready to mass produce a 450mph high alt DB603 inline engined FW190 variant in late 1942 - a plane that was better than the 1944 Fw190D9, but instead its engines were directyed to Me410 destroyer production..

I go along with the He-100
Dispite it was a rather good fighterplane, the luftwaffe only used it for training and propaganda (some did see action I assume?)
Why would they not choose for the Heinkel?

Why did the luftwaffe choose for the Bf-109 instead for the He-100?

i thought i heard something about manufacturing times and quantities.
BF promised more faster than they really could, but the luft believed them

It was my understanding that there was teething trouble with the surface evaporative cooling system (look ma! no radiator!) as well as internal politics that killed the He-100.
Too bad too, it was a sexy plane.

Willi Messerschmitt had a lot of couth with the RLM. He was also very apt at political manoeuvring.

The Lw didn't choose the 109 instead of the He100... the 109 did compete against the He112, and the Messerschmitt proved to be superior.

The LW sold some He100's to the Russians back when Hitler and Stalin were making nice. I wonder if any saw combat against the LW?
Heres more, from http://www.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/LRG/he100.html: Six prototypes were eventually sold to the Soviet Union and three He 100D-0 went to Japan. The three He 100D-0's being armed with two MG 17 and a 20mm MG/FF. The remaining 12 He 100D-1 fighters were used to form a Heinkel-Rostock factory defense unit, flown by Heinkel pilots. However, in 1940, Goebbels publicised the He 100 to the extent that British intelligence reported the He 100 in large scale service as the He 113.
Apparently the Soviets drew on the He100 in designing the La3, as did the Japanese in designing the Ki61.
