My Mp3 collection is at its max right now. Can't think of anymore music to get my hands on. I'm always looking for new bands with artists that aren't really known nation or even world wide. For example the Pat Mcgee band is pretty popular along the east coast here, and many people I talk to haven't ever heard of them. (Very awsome band btw) Also guys like Jack Johnson who got rolling towards the west coast... Another excellent artist who is little known to the majority.
So what I'm asking is what are you favorites when it comes to these types of bands/artists? There is a pretty vast age group here so I'm sure there is going to be a good bunch of bands/artists from all styles of music.

James McMurtry and the Heartless Bastards. Live in Aught-Three.
Sample Lyrics:
Out the back and down the alley
Gone to get your bucket spiked
Come back when you think you need me
Come back any time you like
Where'd you get that red dress
Where'd you get that red dress
Yes I'm drunk but damn you're ugly
Tell you one thing yes I will
Tomorrow morning I'll be sober
You'll be just as ugly still
Where'd you get that red dress
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (Bruddah Iz). Facing Future or N Dis Life.
IMO these are "best of genre" picks; if you're looking to stretch your world, start here. If you're looking for something that sounds like what you already like, but better, give me some more info on what you like.

honestly mosca im always up for new sounds. I listen to music much of the time im working at my pc.
http://www.patmcgeeband.com/indexa.html
Thats the link to the band i mentioned before. But its not the only style of music i listen to or like.
Really I'm just looking for new-old-haven't heard of before, bands. I've got just over 5000 songs and have run out of new music to download.
-
Not necessarily favorites, but I like to listen to them occasionally:
Beth Orton (http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/orton_beth/artist.jhtml)
Iron and Wine (http://www.ironandwine.com/)
-
OK, then those recommendations won't hurt you. McMurtry is a little bit darker than Pat McGee and rocks a bit harder, but he's very inventive lyrically; he has his father's gift for imagery and irony (he's the son of Lonesome Dove author Larry McMurtry). James McMurtry on the web. (http://www.jamesmcmurtry.com/)
Iz is ethnically different. If you saw the Adam Sandler movie 50 First Dates, his is the version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow that you heard. The voice and the music transcends cultural differences, though. It's marginally "Jawaiian" (Hawaiian reggae), but that pays a cold compliment to a talent that could do anything, but worked within that style. Iz died in 1997. He was a big man, over 600 lbs, and that killed him.
You can get streams from
AMG (http://www.allmusic.com)
Enjoy the search, friend.

You've got quite a list there JB. I'm jealous. .. :D
If you like Classical Gas (I absolutely love it) get the Mason Williams version. The original is always better, even if it is Chet Atkins. :)
How is the GnR and Angus "Whole lotta Rosie"? Sounds like an interesting combination.

And no im not going to show you mine. I dont flow like that. :p

ADMIN of a list like this is an ATROUCIOUS job.
YES i am anal, i keep all songe by "genera" then a folder for artist, the a folder for album, then song is "NAME - ARTIST" wiht the space.
the angus / gnr whole lotta rosie is a dude with a casset in his jacket, bad recording, but cool song, same with led zeppelin doing sweet emotion.

ha, yeah I'm about half way done with it. I got my list of "to be downloaded" growing as we speak. Good stuff, and i was just funnin btw. :)
Regular, lol.. I'm pretty much the same way. I just download some music just to have it.
EDIT: Btw 73, I noticed that your Nickleback collection is lacking "Figured you out". Good song.
Starts off with
"I like your pants around your feet"
"I like the dirt thats on you knees,"
:)

LOL
i have so much junk i just have alot for "posterity"...
i dont really listen to say 10,000 maniacs on a daily basis. i just have 2-3 songs i like, and ripped the whole CD.... better to have it saved somehow, and when i put winamp on shuffle i might hear a song i dont normally "like" and listen to it.
early on, i only ripped the songs i listened to on a CD, and i saw the folley in that. now i am going through slowly and ripping the whole CD's and deleting the remanents. soon (maybe a few months because im lazy) i will have all the stuff i own here.
funny, i can count as i go through the songs i got off napster / kazaa whatever, less than 10% i DL'd "illegally" all the others i own, either on CD cassette, or album.
the cassetts and albums are PO'ing me though, i can;'t "RIP" them, and am losing the money i spent on the songs.
thats what REALLY PO's me with the record companies. i own a version of the song, but i can't DL a clean version because my tape is encrusted with junk, and my album is scratched to CHT. a big <<>> to them, i paid for it, sometimes more than once already (buying a cassett of an album, or a CD of a cassette).
record companies can kiss my giant hairy AS*.

Rob Tognoni (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/4/robtognonipowerbluesrockmusic.htm)
thats one i like alot ... and i cruise thru sound clic (http://www.soundclick.com/) alot along with vh1 and streaming media /video .
Btw whats wrong with Madona or Gwen stefani ... Id Do em ... :D
-
JB how can I get my playlist to you? I got alot of songs, that your missing if you want em. Not sure how to get PL off winamp.
-
street.. i know the song, i dont own it, im not going to buy it, and not going to waste the time DL'ing it because there is no "reliable" tool for DL'ing anymore.
winmx is filled with junk files, kazaa is hacked and the smae junk files, azerus is for ovies, and i still can't navigate bit-torrent well, edonkey is hosed to, all i get is junk.
itunes is "ok" but try to use the song in many "legal" ways is dmn near impossible. they wont work on my creative mp3 player, and if i "nurn" them i can't rip the CD back to mp3 or anything.
worthless money trap. i have wasted over $30 on songs i no longer have, OR try to run and says "you do not have permission this file is copyrighted" even though i mother******* PAID for it.
<> the music business in their big gigantic buttered up as**oles.

well, im "old fashioned" i use winamp 2.81...
anyway with a default skin with the "options" ther should be a misc. options. one should be "generate html playlist" and you can either save it that way and upload or save as a text file and post here like i did originally.
-
JB, I thought the same thing about the p2p tools until i came across a program called Limewire. You can get it from http://www.downloads.com for free. It'll ask you to upgrade if you want, just say later...
I lost all my songs about 4 months or 5 months ago with my HD crapped out. No back up. Stupid i know. Since then I have gotten around 5000 songs off it and can honestly say I haven't gotten a single bad song. There is virtually no spyware that is installed unlike Kazza which rapes your system.
I love Limewire, I'ved tired every P2P POS out there and this one is it. Its the best. DL times are faster than any I've seen and quality of content is second to none.

is limewire under the "attack" of thr RIAA?

Im curious .. back when riaa started there bs they had tons of music filled up with virouses and spyware along with so much junk .
and does it pork your connection with pings for 2days after u use it like kazaa does ???
-
Muse. Supposedly they're pretty big in Europe, and on the way up over here. I haven't heard them on the radio or anything mainstream yet, but I don't pay attention to those enough to notice if they were there.
Saw them live a month or so ago. They've got some great stuff.
-
Soulseek is great for songs. Great place to find obsecure stuff. No junk spam spyware crap. I think its based in England. Its great.
Right now im listening to a lotta ambient/lounge acid jazz type stuff. Yah i know, shoot me now. Its not really music. But it kills time in PC game trance.
Just google ''Soulseek.''

Not in the least bit Ros.
Kazza was loaded with all kinds of crap that would basicly take over your system.
Limewire hasn't given me a single problem and is very reliable. All of the downloads i've gotten are good clean genuine songs.
You dont have to use it, but I recomend it highly if you like to download MP3's
btw, if the RIAA was going to come, they would have. I'm 5000+/- songs later....

"alone" sounds like a system of a down wannabe song, singer sounds the same too.
"diamond" has a real retro feel, almost like a cross between old U2 and Police.
they independant? music sounds a bit lo-fi

try leon redbone

I'm not the only person who's heard of the Pat McGee band?! Sweet! They're out of Virginia and I've been collecting live shows by them. I actually cover a few of their songs during my shows, the stuff he writes is so simple yet so...I don't know what. Just simple and common sense music that sounds good. The Piano player is good too! Big PMB fan. For Tabs & lyrics go to http://www.pmb.st
I play Hero, Shine, Beautiful Ways, Minute, Rebecca & Passion. I hype them up when I play and challenge anyone listening to name the band.
I am a big big big Dispatch fan (Missed their final show in July last year...dammit)
Try Embassy http://www.rockembassy.com they're out of central ohio and you can download their demo cd on the website...good band.
-

In other words... the only good bands are the popular ones.
I'm just happy that I was able to experience the perfection that is and forever will be Britney Spears.
