Title: Spawn Camping
Post by: Red Tail 444 on January 06, 2005, 04:43:33 PM
I's love to see a randomization of spawn points to reduce the impact of spawn camping.

Not quite sure how or if it's possible, but the system as it stands nw is completely hosed. One tank ranking up 30 kills with no chance od retaliation is just not realistic.

Maybe a 5 mile area where a GV spawns, in any direction, would keep the campers at bay, and give the GV spawners at least a fighting chance.

A simple fix for that would be to spawn oriented to the nearest visible enemy, not just pointing to the spawn arrow. This will give you an opportunity to strikeback, but you will receive the first hit most of the times.

Personally what you need is an antitank gun capability. Lets say 3 dug in positions and AT guns can spawn to any just like shore batteries or manned ack....the other option would be a bazooka team:)....

Other idea, is to get a Ground attacker aircraft to come in and buzz the tank with bombs, rockets and or guns and spawn at the same time.

But a series of dug in 88's in the anti tank role would be very nice, pick off the spawn camper as he is coming in....

Actually, it is not only possible, it has been done. When I started playing, gv's spawned in the same spot...exactly...everytime. HT added code to make the gv's spawn in an area instead of the same spot.

As for the realism part, getting a couple of hundred kills and dying a few times isn't 'realistic' either....:).

What is needed is the option to spawn a suicide infantryman with either a satchel charge or a bazooka/PanzerFaust/schreck, and mebbe the ability to sprint for a limited distance.  About ten of those popping up at once and spreading out would make things interesting for a camping Tiger or even King Tiger.

[p.s. with ability to ride as cargo/crew in a friendly M3, or even on the back of a friendly tank!]

[p.p.s. use the Russian RS-82mm rocket off the IL2 as a bazooka/panzerfaust stand-in until better modelling is available?  It's already here, after all, and seems about the size of those other AT rockets]

Nah, you have the same opportunity to retaliate against a spawn camper as you do with a vulcher. You can keep upping and complain about the nasty ole spawn camper or come from another field and kill his weak butt. :)

Actually, we like to rush the spawn and kill the campers.  We don't cry about being killed in the process.

We also enjoy a good spawn camp and vulch.

You want cricket, play cricket.  (Apologies to Douglas Bader for manipulating his famous quote, "It's not a bloody game of cricket")

Nah, I'm not interested in driving for 40 minutes -minimum- for some revenge, I don't take the game that personally, I'm more interested in..Oh, nevermind....

Anyone who complains about spawn camping obviously has not sat at a spawn with a couple squadies/buddies drinking beer and laughing as you kill the same dweeb over and over. It is a blast!!!

I usually up a couple times to kill a spawn camper, if I cant I go grab lancs and 2000lbers and make sure he doesnt land my deaths. :)

well keep in mind that the guy who invented this game was a known spawn camper according to people who knew him as a player.

Spawn Roads..............

Having selected a vehicle the player clicks on the clip board map over any part of a road between his field and the next field.

This will put him on that raod at approx. that point. Players are not then limited to a single spawn point and may emerge further back for a safer (camp free) passage.

Using a road for this reproduces the concept that "metalled" transport is a quick but known route whilst cross country after leaving a road is slower but more "covert".

In its simplest form the the spawn road is made up of a series of Gv spawn points the key is that they are accessable and so the simple "compass" type spawn buttons become inadequate.

The random spawn idea (+/- 1.0K) would at least make the spawn campers have to move their gun before they continue their nonchallenging killing spree.  Don't have us continue to spawn in the same exact place.  However, occasionally you need to spawn somewhat close to your country mates if you are massing a GV attack.  For this reason a 1.0K variation at the spawn point would work great.

that is a great idea.

In the terrain the present spawn point has both a reference to its location its direction and its altitude (which is set to be at the "terrain alt")

Even now there is minor randomisation when spawning GV's (to within a few metres). This also causes problems on some maps where the spawn point has been set close to significant changes in terrian slope.

eg on pizza it was possible (on occasion)to spawn part way up the side of one of those canyons and fall to earth and death.

On AH2 maps we note that we do not spawn into heavily wooded terrain............... imagine if the spawn point was then randomised over several hundred metres............ folk could end up spawning in/on trees or falling off steep sided objects.................etc etc

The easier, more obvious fix would be not to display spawn locations on any clipboard maps.  Only show a short arrow showing where spawns originate and what direction they go.  There is no purpose served in depicting the exact actual spawn location on a map other than to provide food for spawn campers.

or you could just not up at camped spawnsites.  There is no reason you should give an attacker an advantage. If someone drove out to the spawn to camp you should have to take a bomber or attacker and go kill him. Not get some random spawn so you can get the angle before he does and kill him. I like it as is. To the Defender goes the Advantage......

Hmmm....and you knew him? Because I did (and do) and "people" are incorrect, at least for the time he spent in AW. There are 2 instances in AW. When he figured out that he could bombard the spawn on a CV deck with a tank (when he told Kesmai, they changed things to 'fix' that) and when he and Snail took the "invisible" flak panzer to an Aland field and shot the crap outta anyone taking off (which Kesmai also fixed when the told them about it).  Played the game with and against him for years, I never heard that he was a "known spawn camper".
