How can this show be so consistantly hillarious?
They are so dead on correct/ funny about everything. I'm watching the episode where they are in Tokyo with Hank's step brother.
Fuggin funny as hell.
I never know when the show is on, but whenever I watch it, it is always funny.

You must be from Arizona.

you must be missing something. lots to laugh at .

I think KOTH is stupid- just like the Red State Republicans the show represents. It's tragic how these poor, poor tools can settle for a mundane life of selling propane when life has so much more to offer. That show makes me want to immigrate to Canada.

hehe.....you like it, don't ya?
I think it's funny as hell......maybe I'm dumb.

Holy crap, yes, it's a great show. Anyone who doesn't find it funny is really only watching it at the shallowest level. For example, Peggy Hill is one of the best characters. On the outside, she's a succesful substitute spanish teacher with a loving family.
In reality, she's a very poor teacher. She teaches spanish, but she can't speak a word for it and the only reason nobody ever fired her is because she doesn't sub long enough. SHE thinks that she's a great speaker, part of what makes it so hilarious. She's painfully competetive, even with her own son to the point where she'll say something that uses her motherly knowledge of her sons fears just to win an argument or spite him.
Her mannerisms are brilliant. She'll take facts and say that they are her opinion to make herself look important. For example: "In my opinion, the day after Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year." She thinks far better of herself then she should, to the point of bragging about her 'Pegsgetti and meatballs', which is just spaghetti and meatballs with sugar added.
This is just one example of a cast that's full of colorful characters. A very richly written show. I've found that most people who don't like it don't bother watching long enough to see just how messed up everyone in the show is.

Lou Ann "So and So wants to bring his '38 to shoot off at the block party, but uncle Hank says nothing larger than a '22
Mrs Hill " well, he is the block captain Lou Ann".
hahaha.
Fuggin fire ants, arse kicking, messin with a man's lawn.....Bobby covered with fire ants, ........ comedy.
-
I understand... I didn't watch long enough to see anything but the shallow humor.
Of course... it's a cartoon, so my threshold of pain is pretty low to begin with.

That's what I figure. There are so many hillarious, subtle things it just cracks me up every time.

Peggy Hill is a painful reminder of how Republican policies have deteroriated our public school system. I watched an episode of KOTH where Peggy was butchering Spanish and, in spite of the show being a cartoon, I wept at the substandard education the poor children were receiving.
That show is painful.

Still got my fingers crossed new episodes of family guy will be made. :)

Exactly, Chairboy- I did that on purpose as a subtle bit of humor, and to see if anyone would notice it. ;)
ROFLMAO at Nuke for laughing, tho- it proves you KOTH fans are dimwitted Neocons. :D

How do you know I was laughing? Airhead, are you Mr Black?

That can't be. I'm Mr. Black.

King of the Hill is awesome. My favorite character has to be Bill, the Army Barber. He's wrong on so many levels it's funnier than chit.
Family Guy is my favorite cartoon though. Peter makes Homer look competent.
-
Hmm never developed a liking for KOTH... for me, it's Arrested Development that does it. Innovative, rich characters, and, go figure! no canned laughs.

I admit I didn't think the show was that funny until after I moved to Texas (Dallas). I've run across a few Hanks, Dales, and yes even a couple of Boomhauers from Ft. Worth. I do like it now, but it did have to grow on me a bit first.
HANK: So, are you Chinese or Japanese?
KAHN: I live in California last twenty years, but first come from Laos.
HANK: Huh?
KAHN: Laos. We Laotian.
BILL: The ocean? What ocean?
KAHN: We are Laotian. From Laos, stupid! It's a landlocked country in Southeast Asia. It's between Vietnam and Thailand, okay? Population 4.7 million.
HANK: So, are you Chinese or Japanese?
:rofl

Yeah Family Guy is a lot more funnier. :aok

I tell you what makes King of the Hill so funny, it's basis in the truth. The characters are painfully accurate models of real Texans. Being a native Texan I can put real peoples faces on each and every one of them. If I did'nt know better I'd swear Mike Judge went to school with me.
-
RPM is quite right. KOTH does a good job of representing actual life in a small Texas town, albeit with slight exaggerations (only slight though).
-
It's a great show, and as pointed out because of the depth of character development and the ability to capture a lifestyle. A departure from Beavis and Butthead for sure, but I also found it great at a deeper level (many didn't) because it captured those characters so well. If you grew up in the 1980s you knew those guys.

I've never stayed long in Texas, but these people live all around me here in rural NE Pennsylvania.
I don't watch the show, but I've seen it a couple times. The one show that really hit home was the one where the guy is put on disability and his friends congratulate him as if he'd hit the lotto. I know people who have made it their life's goal to collect permanent disability.

Unquestionably the funniest statement I have ever heard on a television show.

KOTH not only represents life in small town Texas but it has a common thread with all small town areas throughout the US. Some folks really do live like those characters in KOTH. Its great because I can relate to the way its written because I grew up in a similar community here in Alabama but had the common sense to get out of there before doing something stupid that would have kept me there till I died.
-
KOTH is one of my favorites. One of the best things I like about it is, unlike the typical sitcom of today, where the husband is a handsomehunk without a clue, the wife is always the brilliant level headed long suffering one, and any minority on the show is full of wise sayings, KOTH makes fun of them all, and the husband is probably as bright and together as anyone.
Even in a cartoon, it is nice to see a show go against the unimaginative grain of hollywood and make the wife an egotistical deluded handsomehunk.

Not to mention weirdly competetive. One time her son Bobby bests her at something, so she makes a comment about how he used to have nightmares where he imagined his stuffed bear poking out his eyeballs or something. Bobby, reminded of this, is suddenly knocked down a notch. Later in the episode, Peggy and Hank are talking in bed when they hear Bobby yell something like 'No, Mr Snuggles, not my eyes!' and Hank says "Funny, I thought he stopped having those dreams a while ago."
-
"

agreed...
-
Great KOTH scene:
Tornado hits and Hank doesn't make it to storm cellar. He clings to a flag pole and all clothes get ripped from him leaving him butt nekid as wind dies down. Rest of folks are coming out of storm cellar so Hank looks quickly for something to cover up with: on his right, a Texas flag caught in the bushes. On his left, a small potted cactus. The next time you see Hank, he's holding the cactus over his privates.

a lot of it is the delivery..... very well done

I'm from Arizona and I don't find KOTH very funny either. Not near enough humor in it to spend any time to see if it gets any better.

some great sound files from that show too.
my favorite was one I had used to replace the windows "program error" tone.
It had Dale saying "computers don't make errors. what they do, they do on purpose"
btw- anybody have that one lying around?
-
Love KOTH.
Same guys who developed Bevis and Butthead.
-
I have to say I enjoy the simple but wise approach the characters have.
"daddy can I put a gun rack on my bike"
"Son, do you know how long I've been waiting for you to ask me that?"
bomhower (sp?) is my favorite
man that ole internet than ole man just get on there and www . click click click
I was commuting home from dallas when I worked their 2 years ago and was listening to love line (another one of my favorites) and they had the GIRL that does Bobby hill on it. Yup a female does his voice. She was pretty funny talking to the call in guests like bobby.
-
That show sucks. It has some good characters: Boomhauer, Dribble, Hank's crazy Dad. But the show usually revolves around the other characters, who are all annoying.
-
I love how Hank fears of Bobby becoming a social deviant rule half the show. Brilliant stuff.

I guarentee Cotton was modeled after my Dad!
