Post by: Sandman on January 07, 2005, 10:14:52 AM
Got up this morning and it's snowing outside... we're at 2400 feet or so in the desert.

Hey Gun... is it snowing down your way?

It snowed here on Christmas day. I figure we're due for another snowfall in about 15 years.

Please don't. We got enough influx of Californians in the late 80s and early 90s.

It snowed on Christmas day like a Hollywood cliche.  The very first time in 40 odd years of my life  I had a white Christmas.  It was gone the next day. But I had a white Christmas at last.

Right now it's blowing a gale and teeming with rain.  Last week a line squall hit us, it sounded like a tornado and actually a small tornado did touch down near where I am now and wrecked a few cars and roofs.  The sun shone as well. The weather is pretty weird lately.

Not really.  It was 39 on base so not cold enough.  It was however, snowing in Cal. City, Rosamond, and lancaster.

EDIT:

it did rain like hell today though

I was down in norco for new years visiting my sister in law.  They live right behind the prison there.  Anyhow driving home the next day the road off the 210 north was PACKED going to the 138.  I couldnt beleive the amount of people trying to turn off to head up to the mountains (wrightwood) and it backed up the dam interstate.  The 138 was crouded as well but nothing new really.

I work with a bunch of guys that commute from victorville and apple valley.  They allways have a problem when it rains cause it floods so bad.

Took this pic a little over a month ago.  Weird weather seems to be the norm this year.

MT, its weird here too.  I live at 2500 ft and I'm surrounded by mountains.  It was 60 degrees here but snowing like hell all around us.  I can look to the mountains and see them covered in snow while I'm wearing shorts and a t shirt.

Where I used to live in NE Cali up in the mountains at about 4400ft they have almost 4 feet on the ground.  Here in Western Montana we have 3 inches, but predicted to get -20's by mid week.

Gunslinger it just depends where you were at on base.  Over on the flightline we only had rain.  Had you gone over by the BX or base housing you'd have seen a mixture of rain and snow.  I went for lunch and right around the gas station I noticed there was a mixture of snow and rain.  The farther I went west it seemed more snow was coming down.  There was still more rain than snow but it was snowing on base.  The second it hit anything it melted off though.

Raining buckets here now. Snowed 3ft or more in Big Bear (about 50 miles from here). 180 people were stranded in their cars overnight on the highway.

I've been driving around s. cal since tuesday......I was supposed to goto Big Bear, but not gonna try...even in the truck I'm in.

I went from Nipomo last night to Mission Viejo today......bad bad bad driving conditions....fog, rain, washed out sections of highways.... bad.

I can't wait to get back to Arizona to get the tail end of this system.
