Poutine is a French-Canadian concoction comprised of french fries, gravy, and cheese curds. (Being a French-Canadian word, you pronounce it as the French-Canadians do.)
This wonderful mélange of taste-tempting but calorie-rich treats originated in Québec, in the region of the Bas-St-Laurent or Gaspésie (so I've been told), caught on in Montréal, and quickly spread from there to other parts of Québec, and even as far as Ottawa. Since then, it has spread across Canada, and is even available at fast-food chains such as Burger King.
Sounds horrific! But.... well.... maybe good after 'bout 10 beers, kinda like White Castle burgers.

looks to me like someone already ate it a couple times

Yup, hit the nail right on the head Lute. Spent New Years at Whistler in B.C. Went stumbling out of the bar with a couple of buds to find some drunkin grissle. Both ordered this wierd watermelon that sounded like pootang :D so, what do i do? I dove up to the counter and ordered the same. God I am craving that stuff like a fidgety strung-out addict now. It's soooooooo good. Aside from its appearance it is a wonderful combination of fatty heartattacking goo!

Gimme chili cheese fries anyday. Heart attack special to go.

At the local diner they sell poutine with not only cheese curds, but swiss, mozerella and cheddar. Absolutely amazing.

Geeze French Fries with gravy has been around forever. Used to eat it at the local hamburger joint ( Yaws ) in Portland back in the late 50's till now.
But kudos to those Quebec'ers for inventing something already invented:)
:D

One can expect a lot of things from the French- Canadian meal named after the President of Russia ( a little bit strange French spelling though).

Guys, you keep on confusing me.
My ex can be called "putana" (in Russian) which is close to the English "slut". Ahaaa! I got it!
Putana is slut for the jerks :aok
