Shade,
Salvo is the dropping of a particular number of bombs for each press of the "B" key. In other words, you have a B17 and you want to take out hangers. It takes 3000 lbs of bombs per hanger to kill it. You want to drop 3 1000lb bombs on each hanger to keep it simple. You set salvo by starting the text buffer with the "/" key and type in  .salvo 3 and hit enter. The test buffer will show in orange yellow type "salvo set to 3 .5 seconds delay. That means each bomb will be released a half second after the one before for 3 bombs only. This way you press the "B" key only one time to drop all 3 bombs.

If you are hitting something small like ack one bomb will do it so you will want to reset the salvo command to 1 ( .salvo 1) so you don't lose your bombs. With one selected you have to press the "B" key each time to release one bomb. The .salvo command works the same for dropping the paratroops out of your C47 or M3.

If you try to take out a hanger with 500lb bombs you must hit it with 6 of them for 3000lbs of combined explosives. Stringing 6 bombs into one structure isn't as easy as hitting it with just 3 since you are moving forward as the bombs drop. They will string along like this ......   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif)
If the string is longer than the structure some might miss. The half second delay allows for rapid dropping of multiple bombs.

Hope this answers your question.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

That answers it to a "T"  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Very helpful guys. Have any of you thought of getting together to expand the onlline help? WOuld be useful.

btw, when I bring up the ordnance page for the B17 all I see is 24 100 lb bombs. What if I only want to load 12? Or what if I want to load 500 lb bombs?
thanks

You have to select the bombs on the scenery when in the hangar. You'll see there are different sizes of bombs displayed on the right of the plane. Moving your mouse cursor over the bombs will show you which kind of ordnance each represents.

It's more difficult with the big B17. The huge shape hides the text displayed. This whole display should be reworked IMO.

You can use the alternate views (F3, F4) and Zoom (Z) to zoom out so you can see which bombs to choose.

You can only choose what size of bomb you want to carry (100, 250, 500 and 1000 pounds), not the quantity: it's fixed.
