Title: Tell me about the Canadair RJ, please
Post by: mosca on January 12, 2005, 06:28:40 PM
We're flying in March, and Mrs Mosca doesn't like smaller planes. What can you tell me about this (really cool looking) regional jet?

It's pretty small.

2 seats either side IIRC. Not much carry-on room.

Basically it's a stretched version of the Canadair Challenger business jet. So tell her it's basically a big private jet.  That should please her.

Make sure you have a device to uncompress your legs once you've arrived to the destination.

:D

Good airplane, good program.  If you are on the 70 seat version and the flaps and slats work, you can Paypal me.  :)

Anyways they fly higher and are quieter and ride smoother than the prop jobs she is thinking of.  Seating is 4 across.  I'm a big dude and I've always been comfy on them.

Have to disagree with the Funkman.

The Comair RJ's have never impressed me with their roomy, comfortable seating.

I'm 6'2" & 230 and my knees hit the seat in front of me. If I sit by the window, I have to tilt my head inboard. If there were a clone of me sitting next to me, we'd be crowded.

But it flies just fine and if you're not real big it's a good ride.

LOL, I'm 6-2 295, and Mrs is also a big lady. This should be a real riot. Good thing it's only a jump from Allentown to Chi.

If you're planning that far ahead, use Expedia or a similar service to choose which seats you want.  I have flown several times on Air Wisconsin (United Express) and my best seat was the very first row (actually was designated row 4??)  lots of leg room and my trable folded out from the armrest.

Safe airplanes, as mentioned a stretched version of the Challenger (of which, the 604 is one of my favorite bizjets) and not as tiny as the Embraer RJ's out there.  The 145s have nada room and I always choose a single seat as opposed to one of the love seats.

We actually booked in Sept, and those front row seats were already taken.

(Allentown to Chi, then Chi to Kona).

I fuel Canadair RJ's, and I've flown from MKE to TPA several times in one.  I'm 5'11", 190lb.  But I can find comfort anywhere really :)

Dunno if the passenger compartment changes, but XRJ's are neat looking.  Extra tank and winglets on them.  Embraer makes some sleek looking RJ's.

Fly on the damn things all the freaking time.... uncomfortable as all hell for me.  6' 3" and about 225.

Never sit in the window, scream like hell for the exit (2" more leg room) or sit in an aisle at the bulkhead.

That said, I have never had a mechanical in one, and they are generally a smooth ride.

As for my favorite as a pax, I prefer this :D

Beechjet is a nice ride.  Or the Hawker 400XP like they're calling it now.

I fly on them quite often. Im 6'3" 275 and what everyone says about comfort for us larger crowd! They once put me in a window seat and the second largest guy on the plane tried to set next to me. We both laughed and said, this isnt gona work. So the kind stewerdess put us both in an asile seat next to a smaller passenger.

LOL...carryon luggage :rofl :rofl  If your wife has a small purse it may fit.

But other than size limitations. Its a very smooth, very quiet and fast ride.

I fly the RJ-700 all the time, it's my favorite jet.  Fast, comfortable, and it flies non-stop from LA to Eugene.  I'm 6'2, 265lbs.

Don't carry on anything bigger then a briefcase, use the 'ala carte' option at the gate if it's available.  When I fly Horizon, it is.

The plane, it's a kick to fly in.  Cruises at 40,000 and takes off like a sportscar.  Last flight into Eugene, OR, the pilot had to be a military aviator the way he dove us out of the sky.  Good stuff.
