Bodies of six Louisiana soldiers arriving home
By The Associated Press

BELLE CHASSE -- The bodies of six Louisiana soldiers killed in a bomb blast in Iraq were being flown home Wednesday to an expected assemblage of family members and fellow service personnel at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base near New Orleans.
The six were killed Jan. 6 in the first of two deadly bombings that took the lives of eight members of the 256th Infantry Brigade of the Louisiana National Guard. In both attacks, bombs blew up heavily armored vehicles.

The six were Sgt. Bradley Bergeron, 25, Staff Sgt. Christopher Babin, 27, and Sgt. Armand Frickey, 21, all of Houma; and Sgt. Warren Murphy, 29, of Marrero; Sgt. Huey Fassbender III, 24, of LaPlace; and Sgt. 1st Class Kurt Comeaux, 34, of Raceland.

All but Comeaux received posthumous promotions.

A soldier from New York also was killed in the blast, which military authorities said was probably set off by insurgents using a remote electronic detonator. The soldiers were on a mission to suppress the insurgents' ability to launch rocket and mortar attacks, said Brig. Gen. John Basilica, commander of the 256th Brigade.

Four days later, Sgt. Robert Sweeney III of Pineville and Staff Sgt. Bill Manuel of Kinder were killed in a similar attack. Their bodies have not yet been returned.

Full media coverage was planned of the Wednesday arrival, including photographers and television news crews -- an exception to a Pentagon edict banning media coverage of America's war dead as their remains arrive. The Pentagon has cited privacy concerns, but critics have accused the government of censoring war coverage.

The National Guard said Wednesday's coverage was authorized by the families of the six soldiers.

A swing and a miss. I dont belong to ant political party, try again...  The avatar of Reagan is to honor a great man who contributed a great deal to the world and to whom I feel personaly thankful for ending the cold war.  Despite your cheap calls for others to think for themslves and abandon the supposed "party line" It doesnt surprise me one bit that an intolerant and hateful type like you cannot comprehend that somebody can admire political figures outside their offical party registrations.  Heck I even like a lot of stuff Bill Clinton di and think he was a good democratic party presidential candidate for the times, unlike say John Kerry today...  But you cant seem to do that, you are too wrapped up in your hatreds, like some old broad who got dumped, you are just all bitterness...

In fact I bet you prolly aren't a libertarian. It seems you started out just as Bush hater, but have let your emotions take over and have now gone on to become a hater of all Republicans or conservatives.  Naturally, you have gone on to become a USA hater - needing to belive any crazy idea that makes the country look bad, and a hater of our traditional American culture with your attacks on christianity. Combine that with your bizzare adherence to lunatric conspiracy theories about our evil government and evil country I'd say you are well on your way to becoming a far out self-loathing leftist.

One was from Westwego - about 5 miles down the road.
And the guard didn't defy the Pentagon. The families requested that it be shown to remind people of the sacrifice this war requires.

well, just so it is clear that my stance on the matter is that there is a pretty strong bias evident when applying these rules to others.  if you were to read the threads, you would find that the insults are pretty much standard across the board and that the rules are obviously being bent in a certain direction.

which is fine.

but it is obvious.

I'm sorry, but what are they doing that is defying the Pentagon's orders?
Bringing bodies home???

Sorry if this seems dumb, I honestly don't know....it would seem that they are doing the normal (but all too frequent) and honourable thing to do during an armed conflict..that is, bringing the dead home.

To the Fallen, may they rest in peace.

the pentagon has standing orders prohibiting the photographing of the returning dead or their coffins.  It was said earlier that this was arranged by the family.

OK, thanks for clearing that up.

er  .read the replies Blue..........OK, so it is just photographing or video taping the bodies returning home.
That seems reasonable.
