Just a kid being a dumb kid.

He's just continuing with a tradition started by his great great-uncle the Duke of Windsor and erstwhile King Edward VIII amongst other members of the House of Windsor. Nothing wrong with that. :lol

I think if that kid could be granted one wish.
It would probably be that he not be part of a royal family.
Seems to want to live his life like any normal kid.
this incedent is nothing more then making a
Mountain out of a molehill.
Only the fact that he is royalty makes it a big deal

Unfortunately, there's a lot of people that love to make a ruckus about anything that they can. It gives them a little piece of the limelight.
Matter of fact..... that's how the media makes thier living.
If you want to put something behind you... you don't pull it out and cry over it every chance you get.

Or Josef Stalin. Just sayin.

Given that he is scheduled to represent GB at the holocaust remebrance this was in particularly bad taste. His nanny should have dressed him better.
-
Let's see... he went to a costume party dressed as a monster.
Big friggin' deal.

Kind if like how none of the Poles were allowed to attend the Victory Parade in 1946 after Roosevelt and Churchill used them (303 squadron had more kills as a squadron than ANY RAF squadron). Bad taste? no. Stupid? yep.
F^&k the tabloids.

A Monster that killed thousands of his countrymen.
There's a difference between this and going as Dracula.
Can't you see the difference?

that guy is just a kid dont forget that, when i was young i did ****less of dumb things, and gotaway with it as the rest of us.
He is prolly going to be taken a picture or beeing in the news for everything he do either its good or bad.
I would not wish my kids that kinda life anyway, I feel sorry for those people beeing brought into a life like that not even asked if they want to be there.
Yeah it was stupid dressing like a nazi but, I guess the intention was not that he like Nazis or their behaviour.
Give him some credit and dont be judging him to hard. (20 is 20 and youngsters are wild)

hey you're right!
maybe we can put him up for war crimes!!
-
Sure it was in bad taste but if it was a costume party it is not a huge deal. Jeez its not like he is endorsing the nazis.
-
it was costume party, he was not dressed as hitler, he was dressed as a member of the africa corp.
it dosent take much to get some people excited.
-
I have a feeling he was mad at the queen, and thought "Now how can I a get her..."
-
Holy crap guys, the British royal family are known for being a bit daft; it was fancy dress party FFS! All the genuine Nazi sympathisers in the british royal family have been dead for decades. A little perspective, please!

Perhaps in November he can wear a Mohammed Atta costume and run around making airplane noises. That would be tasteful.
Sure would. Why don't you come over and do it in Times Square? That would be really funny to watch.
But then again maybe you are being sarcastic and really mean that people should never dress up or pretend to be WW2 Germans.
Maybe we should all agree to ostracize people who pretend they are by dressing up like them or adopting a persona of one.
BTW nice aviator you have there. What type of plane is it? Oh and who is the real person whose name you adopted for this game?
-
Just a Kid? Yep
Totaly stupid insensitive and a complete plonker? Oh yes
I mean jees he could have worn the uniform but left off the armband that was a realy stupid thing to do!

yep, armband was the real kicker (not that the tabloids would have cared) . without that wearing the uniform to a costume party is different than us flying german planes how? or one of hawklores friends pretending to be SS? heck even with the armband if he was almost anyone else noone would have cared...

looks like an indiana jones nazi costume.

may be a little bit pathetic or fun, but some parts of nazi like fashion is sometime popular.
We have plenty light caots here, whitch has been used by german army during ww2 and many guys like them for various reasons.
However signs related to Nazi are forbiden at public places ... i think..

There is nothing wrong about WW2 germans.
There was/is something wrong about (and not only german) National Socialist German workers party (aka Nazi).
i would not have problem to see someone in uniform of german army... if he do not propagate Nazi brum brum BoyZ :D
-
I doubt he's losing any sleep over it (especially at 20) given what he is losing sleep over :)

Yep, movie land, where every German carries an MP40 and wears a Nazi armband on his uniform...
:D
Now as for the kid he is really only in trouble because he is a celebrity and slightly more because he is from the royal family.
As others have said, I doubt he cares much - I bet he is getting off on the noteriety and going by Charon's post apparently other good things.
-
If it wasnt so ridiculous, this story would be fun. Us who gave the world stuff like John Cleese Goose-stepping in Fawlty Towers and imitating Hitler. And we have our knickers in a twist over a fancy dress costume
Way to go Harry :aok

Sorry about that. But as Sandman points out it's hard to know that with Mozilla :)

It's too bad people don't get this pissed off when folks get all geeked out in eagle feathers and Indian Chief costumes...
Screw it, let him wear what he wants, no biggie...we Americans should worry about our own backyard...isin't that what we tell everyone else to do?

Dracula is based on Vlad " the impaler" a Romanian Despot that killed thousands of his countryman. If you go as Dracula you offend Romainians???? Hitler took a Druid good luck charm as his own.... he offends Druids??? Now everybody is offended by harry with a swastika.....Hey harry, next time go as the Grand Dragon of the freaking KKK, that'll get a real rise out of em. He's just a kid give him a break.
-
What an AHole. England must be proud. Talk about stupid kid is right. Even a stupid kid would know better.
-
On a side note, the Swastika is actually a symbol of peace, regardless of the Nazis hijacking it.
It's origins are Finnish I believe.

It was originally "Druid" A good luck symbol as far as a they can tell, but no one can say for sure. It is pre written history.
-
I know someone who knows a good deal of history about the Swastika. If I remember, I'll dig it out of him.
The fact he is Finnish may have confused me as to it's origins :)
-
Swastika is common for several ancient cultures from native Americans to Aryans (real ones in Asia; not Adolph's wannabees).
Finnish Swastika came to use 1918 when Swedish count Von Rosen donated FiAF its first aircraft (Morane Parasol built by Thulin in Sweden); swastika was count's lucky sign and was painted in the wings of said Morane aircraft. FiAF adopted the blue swastika for honoring Von Rosen.

The swastika has a very diverse history indeed. The same cannot be said of its future, though, as it will always be primarily linked to the nazis.
-
and to you.
-
Thanks for the background info and Link Staga.
-
OK the swastika might have a better origins, but how about a swastika on a German uniform. In that context I think the poor taste and plum stupidity speaks for itself.
Context is everything.

LOL you really need to do some research on Dracula
But people dress up as Ghengis Kahn and Attilla the Hun all the time.
One or the other I forget which at the moment was actually more murderous then their Nazi counterpart

I dont think they should get all geeked out over that either.
I never got Native americans getting all upset over such things. None is ment as being insulting. Quite the contrary.

charles orders harry to visit auschwitz (http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=7323906)
-
This is just idiotic. What the hell do they want him to say for an apology? Make a speech about how awful the Holocaust was, how wrong he was for wearing a swastika, etc. etc., how important it is that we act quickly to get rid of dictators in today's society so this sorta thing can't happen agai... er... wait... THAT wouldn't fly... Hmmm.
Still, this is a REALLY stupid move for someone who KNOWS they're in the spotlight. What the hell was he smoking?
Kudos for Charles though, sending him to the concentration camps and all. I think he has the right approach here.
Still, people get entirely too caught up in this sort of ****. Remember it, Honor the victims, Teach the youth so that it won't happen again, but take it easy and don't get so stressed about petty things like this particular incident.
Of course, if you were THERE well, by all means, feel however you have to feel, do whatever you have to do, I have nothing but respect for you and your wishes. But if you WEREN'T there, don't get too worked up about THIS for crying out loud.

How nice of you to bestow that right to those who lived thrue one of the darkest periods of our parents times.
And no I was not there but my grandfathers brother and his wife were there.
Sorry to say this but unless you have lost family or friends to the Holocaust I don't think you really need to be saying what is proper for some people to react a certain way about something like this.
And speaking of American Indians I agree I think It an insult to have sports teams using slang words like redskins in there names.
I mean how does the Buffalo boot lips sound.
Kinda racist huh?
Well I can imagine to an Indian redskin would be just as offensive

Um yeah... Polish descent here bud. My grandparents lost QUITE a few friends and family. The just simply vanished, either to Hitler, or Stalin, who knows?
And sorry to say this, but for people to get this upset about a 20 year old kid wearing an armband to a costume party is absolutely ridiculous... It's not like he committed a hate crime here people.
And let me clarify that in my previous post I was only referring to this Harry incident. Because really, if you were not a witness to the horrors of the Holocaust, and you're getting this worked up about THIS particular Harry incident, well, a relaxing stroll may be in order. If you WERE witness to the horrors (or even if you lost someone that you personally knew - not just heard about), well, your concerns are completely understandable.
I could understand not thinking Harry has the best character after this stunt. Obviously his father is taking care of that though.
-
Agreed I think his father is taking the right coures of action .
Not only to teach the young man something but also to look good for the press as well.:)
-
its not just the jews that should be miffed. didnt the nazis also bomb the living crap out of the english? not to mention invasion casualties?
the kids a moron.
whats worse is that it serves to empower those who are looking for poster boys for the militant cause.
that said, the brits might reconsider propping up these insuffersble miscreates.

Vlad Dracul did far worse than you might think. you have to research yourself to find out how much worse.

Good point... too bad they don't defend it either.
