Title: Advanced training available.......
Post by: Nomak on January 14, 2005, 02:36:47 AM
After a brief time out ..... and a few days back to regain my composure......  I am available for 1 on 1 advanced training.

I do not do well with brand new players.  If you need to learn how to get off the ground..... or basic commands..... or how to land then my 1 on 1 training is NOT for you.  Please contact any of the "Offical" AH trainers for this kind of training.

However......

If you are a vet who wants to know how to really dogfight then I can help.

Perhaps you are a Guru who just needs a Dueling partner to stay up on your skills...... No problem, I am available.

Mabye you are a Strat player who wants to learn how to hold his own when need be.  No problem, I am available.

Mabye you are not a nOOb but not really a Vet and you are interested in advancing your skills.  No problem, I am available.

If you have a good grip on the game and want to advance your skills then feel free to contact me for free, personal, 1 on 1 Dueling arena training.

I look foreward to hearing from you!

Nomak,
Would like to hook up for some training, been playing AH since I moved from Air Warrior. I believe I have a firm grasp of basic flight and some ACM. My biggest problem is wanting to increase my K/D, I get plenty of kills but landing them seems to be an issue. You may contact me at redmizt@fastmail.fm or I can contact you, I have a flexable schedule and look forward to some meaningful training.

Can you teach me how to fly this darn p38...LOL thanks for your time last night. Was fun. Went to the MA and hopped straight into a p38 and worked on what you showed me. Like usual started out great got 4 kills then the aggression really kicked in because I was out numbered, lost E then died.

Well everyone.....I took that "NOMAK" guy up on his offer...LOL....seriously..... David....THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!

Fortunately I read this post and Nomak was online.....within 2 minutes we were in the DA and going through some training.  Ill be honest...I am an average pilot at best but the training I recieved was OUTSTANDING!

David was very helpful....very insightful....and made the whole thing fun.

I learned a tremendous ammt and am now headed to the MA to do some damage...hopefully:D

Seriously guys.....if you want to learn how to do ACM take Nomak up on his offer...dont bring an attitude just be willing to learn!

Urchin helped me out a while back as well and I honestly feel if more folks would use the DA for training it will go a long way to help everyone understand how to dogfight and get kills....hey thats what its about right??????

Anyhow .......try it out and practice....it is a ton of fun!!!!

I will wrap up whatever I have going at the time and head right over to the DA with ya.

So hold off on the mail for now and just hollar at me in the MA and we can go have some fun!

An update.....sucked butt in the MA when I first started flying the plane you and I were training in....THEN.....I started "seeing" the things you were talking about and found myself looking for trouble in situations I probably shouldnt have been getting myself into!

And you know what......THANKS!!!!!!!  Once I kinda started getting the "intangibles" you were talking about....whammo...the clue light came on and the fun just went on from there!

Again much appreciated!

I was fortunate enough to get some 1 on 1 training with Nomak tonight, and would recommend it to anyone. I think I kinda fall in the middle ground, been around too long to be a noobie, but years from being a "vet". I really enjoy seeing how others fly/fight, and try to take some ideas away to ponder and use to improve my abilities. I definately got some tonight. I'm finding I generally do fine in the MA, but when it comes down to 1 on 1 sustained fights I'm still lacking. Shane also worked with me a bit in the DA, and although it took me a bit, it really helped in the end. I'm looking forward to putting some of Nomak's ideas to use also. Hope to get together with Nomak, Shane, and some of the other experienced sticks in the future...

Title: Just had a lesson...
Post by: Vudak on January 16, 2005, 07:23:41 PM
I just got out of a lesson with Nomak and I can not stress enough how good of a teacher he is. He'll tune to you on channel 5 and walk you through what he's doing, and what you're doing wrong.

We were in there for perhaps an hour but I learned QUITE a bit, and definately feel more refined.  I recieved a lesson on flap usage, and merge technique (two areas I was very much lacking in).

I was very suprised at just how wrong I was using flaps, and just how much more E I saved using them the right way.  Looping fights that would normally only last so long before I was in the dirt ended up lasting indefinately longer.

I strongly suggest that people take advantage of this training program as I am sure they will come out better from it.

Thanks Nomak!

Thanks Dave!  Good to see you again late last night!

Btw...some thoughts.....

Vudak hit the nail on the head.....use of flaps is key....I found myself doing some good maneuvering, however, I was allowing Nomak to get on my 6 after a few turns.....F....L.....A....P.. ..S.....

Thats was a key thing for me...I was leaving them on WAY to long....I thought I didnt do this much at all but I really did end up doing that....so use them sparingly or you will bleed the E off fast!

Might be common sense and I thought it was but guess what I found myself doing the thing I said I wouldnt do!

Regards

Thanks again Dave/NOMAK:aok

That is a very good question and one that I should adress.

I am profeciant at almost all of the AH planeset.

The key is that the type of skills I am trying to pass on are not really dependent on any particular type of aircraft.  The stuff I teach in a Spitfire can be utilized in a 190 or a f6f and so on.

Most of the time I am trying to ultimatly change the way people "Think" about air combat.  So the particular type of aircraft used doesnt really impact the way things are approached.  However, that being said.....

I believe that some aircraft are more "Conductive" to learning than others.  In the case of the MKV Spitfire (My favorite aircraft)  I find that it doesnt limit ones imagination.  In other words if I can think it,  the Spit can probably do it.  So when im flying the Spit the thoughts im having on ACM can be manifested into action without hesitation.  My gut instinct is then translated into action that flows.

When flying "Slower" (in relation to handling not speed) aircraft I find that my mind works much faster then the ACM can be implemented.  While I dont really have any problems flying or teaching in this type of aircraft,  I dont recommend training in them because I believe that they create a kind of "Bottleneck" for the thought/action relationship that makes learning slower and at times more frustrating.

One other point I would like to make is that when fighting in "Faster" (Again in terms of handling) aircraft things tend to happen at a more accelerated rate.  That causes the trainee to be forced to learn to act/react very quickly.  In my opinion that is an invaluable tool to have in the toolbox.

I hope that answers your question.  If you want to do LW Aircraft that is no problem.  Although I would recommend for example the 190A5 over the Dora for the reasons listed above.

Man .... all this talk makes me wana fly!  I think Ill be up tonight after all.

allthou nomak suck as a pilot :p

he is amazing in translating the moves he thinks or see in too words, an abillity i wish i had.
that makes him an awesome teacher, he will guide you step by step untill you will reach the full potential you are holding inside.

a warm recommendation to try him.

Nomak,

that sounds highly interesting. I think i will contact you once i get a replacement monitor as yesterday mine ceased function (luckily its still in warranty time).

But i most admit i would really like to try it out with a Dora first if you have no problem with that Nomak. It was and is my absolute favoured ride. Changing to the A5 only in case it doesn't really work with the Dora.
As i have stated in another post my main problem is that in over 1,5 years of absence i got rusty both ACM and gunnery wise.
I tend to pull for a guns solution to early. The timing also suffered, with me currently initiating i.e. lead turns either to early and therefore overshooting the target or to late with to much seperation to the target.

P.S.: I should mention that i always considered myself as the worst 1v1 pilot ever, but as a very good "combat" flyer cause i utilized SA and surprise to the edge and so i really like the confusion of multiplane engagements.

Guys, take advantage of this opportunity.  Nomak is by far one of the best 1v1 pilots in the game, rust or not, and he'll do more for your flying in one hour than you might do in one year trying to learn it all on your own.

Thats fine with me.  We will start with the D9 if you prefer.  I am willing to bet though that after a few training sessions you will start to prefer the A5 ;)

Thought I'd drop in and say hi.

I met despair the other night while he was training with nomak. Hes a heck of a guy. First class and really has a handle on what this game is about for him. It was alot of fun to hang out in there again.

I have to say that if you are looking for that next level in this game, Nomak is the guy who can give you a boost up to it. After flying for a little more than a year, I met him in the MA. He was asking for a dueling partner so I volunteered. I came to find out that night how very little I knew about ACM and fighting in general. Probably 2 1/2 years later and hundreds of hours spent in the DA, here we are. I owe much if not all of how I fly to Nomak.

He is in my honest opinion the best trainer within the DA that I've ever known and probably the best ever in there period. He's got a way of doing things, and teaching that is second to none.

We're all lucky to have him. So value the time you spend with him. As good as you think you are, he will always show you that you have a thing or two yet to learn.

I think your "advanced" enough to train with Nomak. But its a moot point really. The teacher can only teach as well as the student can learn. And in saying that, I think your more than suited to benifit from Nomak.

Nomak,

I think you may have started something here.

I got EXTREMELY frustrated in the MA last night....to the point where I wanted to switch sides just to find a fight.

Then I realized....DUELING ARENA!

Got 4 of my squaddies...Pepr, 6dan, ericred and myself in the DA.

We did 2v2 for about an hour and man was it FUN!  We all learned alot...I learned my squaddies are damn good pilots...some very insightful flying!

Thanks again for AWAKENING me....I appreciate it...still practicing and getting the hang of things...wont come quickly but it is coming....

Thanks again Dave!

Nomak

Thanks for offering your time!  I really could use the help.

This started this month flying a 190d with a strat based plan to see if I could get my kill to death up.   I stayed fast, only engaged when I had the advantage or could create the advantage on the opening moves.  My kill to death doubled.  But it bored me to tears.  There is Nothing like a good dogfight!  Well, except for the crashing and burning part  :)

I think my 1 v.1 and 1 v 2 has gotten better, but I am, by no means, a good pilot.

I am mostly self taught and I have done my reading on ACM and gunnery, but I really could use some reps in the TA or DA with a fighter Guru.

I will look for you "in the game" sir and would apreciate any help or information from other fighter jocks out there.

Thanks!

Ya gotta love the Duds. I have spent time working with them in the TA and I'm glad to see that you are taking time with them too. As I said on the BBS before, these guys will be a real factor in the MA given a few tours of experience. MegaDud will be flying with us (Sky Pirates, with Hammer as CO) as soon as we can him the invite he requested. Hammer created a squad from expatriate Ghosts for those Rooks who aren't interested in toolshed bombing but rather in flying fighters. Hammer's initial webpage is up too at: Sky Pirates (http://www.Sky-Pirates.org)

Finally got to get in some Training with Nomak, right away he started fixing errors in my flying. It is amazing how stupid ya can be at times, but I am determined to work on the areas he pointed out. The no Tracers suggestion was hard to stomach at first, but I am getting much better at not using them. Think it has even forced me to get better at gunnery. Went back to the MA and was still landing kills even though i was flying in a 2 V1 to 3 V 1 sector.
Thanks Nomak and I am looking forward to additional learning and Training Sir!!!

Nomak, I usually fly from 11pm to 2 am pacific time on Mondays and Wednesdays.  I hope to run into ya sometime, as I could use some training in turn fighting.  I know a few tricks, but sometimes, I just can't get on the guys' six after a few loops.  Soon, he'll be on my six and then I'm dead.  :(

I usually fly the typhoon and tempest.  I've started to fly the P38, but can't quite seem to out loop spits or niki's.  I do use flaps.
Thanks for your time.

There are no stupid questions Mega.  What you tend to do alot of though is bring attn to your self by saying things like "I Suck" or "I dont even belong here"  Im not sure why you do this because you obviously dont suck.  To be honest I find it very annoying and I tend to lash out at you quite a bit when you do it.

So I will be happy to answer questions for you and I will be happy to work with you more.  Just leave those comments at the door EH?

I will take all requests tonight in the order that they are recived.

After tonight all personal training from me will be suspended for a while.

Overall things have gone very well and I think alot of players have benefited.

Do me one favour... don't proliferate the belief that flat and/or rolling scissors are ACM. They're basic combat maneuvers ;)

What are you jelious Wet-Beaver?

Either be nice or go back to your own thread.

Are you trying to piss me off?  Or would you like me to post the hour after hour of films I have of you being owned by me in the DA?

1) I'm not jealous
2) I didn't intend to offend you
3) I haven't dueled you since 2002 or 2003
4) As I recall, the only people who "owned me" that I ever DID duel regularly (ie. hour after hour?) are on the muppet or JG2 roster
5) Get over yourself.. don't take yourself so seriously.
6) I can take a picture of a table of contents in a book by one Robert L. Shaw, whom I understand has flown a real plane or two, in which rolling/flat scissors are in a category with Yo-Yo's under Basic Fighter Maneuvers.

Like I said, I wasn't trying to offend you - my previous post was made in jest.. it just irks me when people designate scissors ACM.

Nomak,

I will make time to look you up in the DA.  I think I need to relearn some ACM ala AH.  Expect to be pinged, but not killed!

Also, I can schedule a time with you if that's better.  Some people hate appointments, but I am not one of them.

Regards,

Malta

p.s. from my recollection, BFM is an acryonmm for Basic Flight Maneuvers and ACM is an ancronym for Air Combat Maneuvers.  When BFM are flown in combat, they become ACM by definition.   I don't ever remember seeing a scissors or rolling scissors as part of Basic Flight Maneuvers (BFM).  Shaw calls Basic Fighter Manuevers BFM, but that is the same as ACM to me.  Of course, if all this is British, then the meanings change completely :D .
