Title: Oliver Stone moving to France
Post by: DiabloTX on January 15, 2005, 07:05:41 PM
From IMDb:

Stone Escapes America for France

Director Oliver Stone is so distraught over the criticism targeted at his last two big screen projects, he's preparing to flee America for France. The JFK movie-maker sparked controversy by meeting Cuban dictator Fidel Castro for his 2003 documentary Comandante - forcing TV network HBO to axe it from their schedule. Stone's recent historical epic, Alexander, was also subjected to scathing reviews in the US for portraying Macedonian warrior Alexander The Great as a bisexual. And Stone can't understand why years of hard work have failed to produce a positive reaction, so is desperate to seek comfort in his mother's homeland, to escape the bad vibes that are crippling his confidence in America. He says, "Since the Castro movie I did, things have been tough. Everyone was against it. Then I put my heart into Alexander, which wasn't appreciated either. The right thing is for me to stay out of America for a while. I'm planning to spend a lot more time in France."

Wha, freaking whaaaaaa.  You make crap, expect to get booed.  Good riddance.  You have sucked bellybutton since Platoon.

He and Mikey Moore should get married and live in splendor in the South of France.

Rumor is that it is the same man that OJ is still looking for, for killing his wife.

I seriously hope that you people still don't consider Lee Harvey Oswald as the person who shot JFK...

I can't hold back the tears that Stone is leaving.....

(Oh......, and yes Lee Harvey Oswald did shoot JFK.  Then he left the Texas School book depository and later killed Officer Tibits (may he RIP).  Was arrested by the Dallas Police and later shot by Jack Rubby.   If you want to prove he was part of a conspiracy....., fine....., prove it.   But never, never say he wasn't the primary 'shooter'..)

tight sphincter anti-bi-homo-whatever-sexuals can't accept that this commonplace orientation existed in many cultures across many time periods.  It wasnt always tight sphinctered... just the opposite. ;)

U Turn was far better.  The only movie of his that I have liked since Platoon.  But to each his own.

Poor Oliver.  It must have been a terrible burden for him to have to live among so many illiterate peons.

He should get out of Hollywood more often.

Mon Dia Blo, why are you so happy that the man who made Platoon has to go into exile?
Because he "portrayed" Alexander of Macedon as a bisexual? It would be a much greater news if OS "portrayed" him as being straight.
What is wrong about interviewing Fidel?
There are probably hunreds and hundreds of film directors in the USA who will never make the movie of Platoon calibre. I am not happy that they are staying here. :(

Dear GeriatricZaur

I like they way you assume so much from so little.  I could care less if OS made ATG into either a bi-sexual, transgender, child molester, mommy lover, puppy killer or a seal basher.  As a Director he can do anything he wants.  So he interviewed Fidel?  Didn't bother me.  I am merely, and ONLY, pointing out that OS is a big cry baby because some people (i.e. not only American's panned his movie) bashed his movie and now he wants to throw a tantrum and say, "Whaaaa!  They didn't like my movie!  I'm moving!" which, as any Director knows, you don't let critics get to you.  I just think it's pathetic that he feels the need to do something so drastic only because of other people's criticisms.  As for OS moving, fine by me.  He can take some more with him if he wants to.  We could use some more Tarantino's and Soderbergh's.

can't say I will miss stones attitude.   He is a fundamentaly dishonest man who, like moore uses entertainment to push his whacked out views and is now sulking because we don''t all become kerrie voters ove a movie or two... He makes a few stinkers and feels that we owe him to praise the crap just cause his heart is "in the right place"   He figures in france any anti American stuff no matter how fake will be greeted with accolades so that is why he is going.

"Oh......, and yes Lee Harvey Oswald did shoot JFK. Then he left the Texas School book depository and later killed Officer Tibits (may he RIP). Yep... Oswald fired the rifle that made the 3 shots that did the killing.   He then shot Tibbits.

Mon Dia, I accept the explanation of your position.
But I can't agree with the geriatric part of it.

"Alexander" bombed world-wide, not just in the US.  For him to blame his crappy movie on American closed-mindedness is just proof of what a total loser he is.  He's moving to the right country.

Ra, "Alexander" has NOT bombed world-wide.
The moneywise comparison of its "fiasco" is not the evidence of the degree of its success. Ticket prices in Europe and elsewhere are different from the Hollywood power-'sucktion' nozzle clearing up the American wallets. :D

Yeah, its a shame, but even the worst crap tends to be profitable after overseas ticket sales & DVD sales are all totaled up.   Thats why Hollywood entertainment companies are expected to make about 30% annual profits

Budget about $150,000,000

WW Gross revenue as of Jan 13th $100,393,134

There is a reason they call it the movie business

Alexander is a bomb.

----------edit---------------------------

The Incredibles:

Budget 92 million

WW Gross revenue $578,824,860

Next time bet on Pixar, not Stone.

Sorry for going OT, but from Angles and the gun he was firing, there is no way in hell Oswald shot Kennedy.

I'm not saying he didn't try...

Alexander The Great was a bisexual ? This is so wrong, he should be deported to a gulag.

laser... there is no problem with the angles or the gun oswald was firing.   it is an easily duplicated feat.  6.35 is a very flat shooting round with very light recoil for it's power.

Please consult my printed articles, "An Atypical Affair: Alexander the Great, Hephaistion Amyntoros and the nature of their relationship," in the AHB 13.3 (1999), which is the scholarly study on which the web article was based and provides a detailed look at all the evidence and the cultural context. Please also read, "The Mourning of Alexander," SC 12 (2001), which further discusses the emotional import that Hephaistion occupied during Alexander's lifetime. While I certainly can't insist that you not quote me, I WOULD like you to note that I do not, in fact, agree with your final conclusions. Thank you.

Snort!  How MANY times does that shot have to be duplicated with that type of rifle, scope, and ammunition before these conspiracy theorists will admit that it was, indeed, POSSIBLE for Oswald to have hit that shot?

He may have been hired or recruited to do the shooting as part of a wider conspiracy, but OSWALD shot Kennedy, period.
