Maybe the CT needs a name change to kick start interest again?
What do you think?
-
I think the CT needs nothing. this is evidenced by the numbers we see nightly. there are people waiting in line 1/2 around the block waiting to get in.
It's just great that the maps are totally bug free and work so smoothly even on my weak system like mine, a one year old alienware area 51.
-
Why should Storch change his name ?
We would all recognise him by his attitude :)

I have always disliked the name "Combat Theater"; it sounds like a furball arena (which would be cool.) It should clearly indicate "Historical" in its name, however. In fact, "Historical Theater" would suit it just fine in my opinion.

Maybe something classic..
like
"Axis vs Allied" or something.
That might spark interest in the people who used to fly in an arena with a simular name in other sims.

well there you have it. written proof of the superiority of the public educational system in the UK.

Historic Arena , Axis vs Allied Arena , are both good choices. Or maybe Scenario Arena? Combat Arena has always seemed a bit vague.
-
Maybe this "Come milk run because nobody will be in here with you" arena that rolls off the tounge.....:aok

Well,
Storch seems like a cool name, why would you want to change it?

c'mon M8 that was a tongue in cheek response.

What?
-
How about "Expert Arena"? :rofl
-
Storch i was referring to Phasers reply about 6 posts ^ i reckon he took it seriously.
Both of us are up for some friendly banter be it in game or bbs, and at times your allied bias tendencies (which i don't agree with) make it far too easy :)

who? ME!!!!!???? :D

Call it Allies v Axis cos that's exactly what it is.
Newbie downloads the game, doesn't read the help file cos...well who does? Doesn't find the forums either cos.....well who does until someone tells em to?
Logs in sees.....Main Arena with loadsa people and Combat Theatre with.....um.....not as many. What goes on in there? No idea.
Call it Allies v Axis and people who have no idea what it is suddenly will.
Call it the Scenario Theatre as Lowe suggested and it'll suffer the same I-don't-know-what-it-is syndrome as the CT and cause havoc the next time the Special Events Team runs a 'scenario'.

Sunday woofer and I were alone in the CT. I was attacking V23 by myself. I posted on the open channel to bring troops to V23. Sparow was on as an allied I warned him not spawn at V23. He spawned at V23 and I shot him in the arse, three times I think. Does that qualify me to join eskimo's squad?

Anybody ever names anything in this game "EA", I will find them, hunt them down, and turn them over to a large group of lonely Samoan women.

That is Good
Historical Theatre
Name combat theatre tells nothing. I rememeber when I was new in AH and I didn't visited this arena because didn't know what is it. However in WB I was flying HA more frequently then MA (in old days when WB was WB and not.....)

I think you need to figure out what it is that you want the CT to be. Then naming it would be easy. Right now is a mini MA with a limited planeset and a lot of BS. If you are looking for a mini MA then go in the MA and limit your plane sets and pick your fights. If not, then, well, what is it supposed to be? I think thats the problem now. I for example don;t know what it is other than what I said above. Why go there if it is not going to be different?

PAA would fit with the complaints I hear...
Porked Axis Arena...

Always the best numbers on that map because all the finn's go in there and fly round as a little hoard (not saying that it is a bad thing).

Well.
Going out on a limb here, I propose "Axis v. Allies Fightertown."
I would even leave the bombers intact. No one flies them anymore as is (where is PropNut in his Japanese bomber?).
I would retain Axis v. Allies. Initially I would have a 1945 plane set, I suppose, Russian, English, and American on one side, German, Italian and Japanese on the other.
Then I would have a rolling plane set, perhaps every two weeks, early war, mid war, late war, all axis on one side, all allied on the other.
I would make all bases within a sector of the original lines capturable, all other bases uncapturable (assuming that can be done...show's how much I've learned as a CM).
I would advertise heavily that this is the arena for furballers. I have given up on my hope that this arena can be something for everyone.
What do you think?

Hiya Oldman,
I like it , But I wouldn't just restrict the marketing to "furballers" , more broadly people who want to get in planes and fight. Furballing is not the only way of having a good fight
Also score is an issue, only because many people like to play for score and
there's not enough people in the CT to have a total ground/air/sea war thing going, and the need to do that to get a good score , spreads the players too thinly at times. You log in with 15 people on the roster , and about 5 are flying.
There's no harm in trying it for a few month's is there ?
-
Let's be honest -- the CT won't fill up with a name change. If you want more people, you have to offer something different from the MA.
And the times I've gone to CT its been the MA with fewer people and fewer plane choices. Same vulching, ganging, milk running, score chasing, (and occasional ego flapping) we can see any night in the MA.
It would be great if the CT really offered a more historical feel. What it felt like, though, to this non CT flyer, was the MA with historical maps, populated by guys who'd been in the Club for a long time.
-
I went into the "Combat Theatre" for the first time a few months ago and had a blast, there was about 20 people in and a nice even split in sides (pacific scenario). The fights were good and the responses you got from a good fight whether you won or lost were encouraging for a relative newbie who is still learning the ropes.
Since that lone night though all I seem to have run into in the CT is side imbalance and a MA attitude to flying and open channel BS.
My last visit there a couple of days ago consisted of everyone being on the allied side (4-5 people) and me on the Axis side (after changing),of course the Allies were land grabbing. I have to ask myself what is the point of this and what challenge do they get?
As soon as I upped and put a stall on one of the land grabs you get a mouthful of "Dweeb, Loser, HO merchant" etc. In my book 4 v 1 = take any shot you can, I can live with verbal abuse but it would be nice to just play the game and have a civil chat with someone on open.
Maybe a little bit of organisation between the people who like to play in the CT, give a night and time, if I knew at a certain time certain people were going to be in there then I would have a look about that time. It's too much of a pain to keep re-logging from the MA just to see there'e only 2 peeps in CT. I know not everyone reads the BBS but from numbers that I have seen here outstrip what I see in CT.
Maybe an Autobalance thingy of some sort? That sort of thing wouldn't bother me but I'm aware that some would see this as being too restrictive.
I really would like to see interest in the CT to improve but whether a name change would be sufficient I dont know, I like "Campaign Theatre".

Thursday nights are going to be your best bet. Its the usual "squad" night. Its not what it used to be but if something organized is going to happen, its then.

This is typical of a few CT regulars. Some arent happy unless they are flapping their gums and spouting off from the safety of thier keyboards. Its best not to respond to it because they thrive on it. I havent quite mastered that though.

Take the good with the bad. The CT can be a blast as youve seen. Its used to be like this the majority of the time. The CT is in a funk right now and needs an influx of decent people looking to have some fun to help the rest of the CT "regulars" pull their heads out of thier tulips and get the thing rolling again.

Get rid of the MA and make the CT the main arena!!!!!
