Japanese L2D1 or L2D2 Navy type 0 Transport Model 11, a license-built copy of a DC-3/C47.  About 500 were built, some versions having plywood skins on ailerons and elevators, some using considerable amounts of wood in the structure.  After the war, the wood-and-metal versions were tested and found to outperform all-metal DC3s, but there were serious structural faults that grounded them.

The similarity between the Dakota's on both sides was almost total, except for the the engines and their nacelles

I don't think so.  Nose is too pointy on yours, and the nacelles are all wrong.

Ki-57 'Topsy'
(http://users.belgacom.net/avphoto/avion1/64927.jpg)Despite some analogies with the bombing version (the Sally), the fuselage is more voluminous on the transport version and had no dorsal turret or canopy

I am now in posession of substantial evidence for Mr/Ms Gear being correct.
