You shouldn't have installed that anyway.

The ATI Control Panel is fine to install, its the Catalyst Control Center you want to avoid.

I am not sure what he is asking about though.

It has to be running.  It sleeps, so it only takes up memory space.  NVidia has one of those too, but they run it as a DLL, which shows up as a run32dll.exe process.

Skuzzy why do you want to avoid the catalyst control panel?  It appears as a small ATI icon in my task bar....should I exit this while playing?  You dont mean delete it totally right because this is how I change settings....

Thanks...

The Catalyst Control Center uses the .NET framework which is a huge resource hog.  You can be pretty sure you are losing about 10 to 15% of your video card performance if you install it.

Use the normal ATI Control Panel.  You can set everything up with it and it will not kill your performance like the Catalyst Control Center will.

Hey Skuzzy..  Is there any way to remove the Catalyst control center without corrupting other ATI functions?  I have that puppy on my system.  If so, what is the name of the file, and proper procedure in removing it?  Thanks!

There should be a separate de-installer in the Windows Add/Remove Programs list for the Catalyst Control Center.

ATI does ship the two control panels as separate installs, as well as bundled with the driver.

They will continue to do until Microsoft ships its next operating system (Longhorn).  At that time, all drivers will be required to use the .NET bloatwork,..er framework.

Thanks Skuzzy....I think that is why when I was running the computer before my reinstall I was getting an error...I did require the .net crap to get it running 100% error free on my end.

Do you think I could just disable by exiting the catalyst control panel each time I log on instead of disabling it?

I am not  experiencing any "hits" or lag etc now that I did my fresh install of everything.

Sys specs in sig block...

Best Wishes,

:)

If you open the ati icon at the lower right of your screen and you see a 3D racecar - you got the catalyst control center.
