Hi all,
Just planning a new system upgrade and was wondering if anyone was running an SLI 6600GT setup for Aces high.
I read on a forum that one guy went from a Single 6800(gt?) down to a dual 6600 for everquest and some slow downs were eliminated.
My target resolution will be 1280x1024 LCD screen.

In order for SLI to be used, you have to have a profile for the game. NVidia has only supplied about 20 profiles. You can build a custom profile for a game, but it is a bit of hit and miss at this point.
SLI support is not automatic for any game. Just FYI.

Brendan,
I have a ASUS Sli board but am using just one BFG 6800 GT OC... Im gunna wait for prices to drop and grab another one.
Im pegged at 75 fps in AH II at 1600 x1200.
Whels has 2x 6600 GTs.

Hi Brendo,
i am using a Asus A8N Deluxe SLI with 2 Leadtek 6600GTs.
and a AMD64 3200+.
i find that with 2 vids im very limited by the cpu power. it can keep up with the video cards.
SLI is the way to go but it will be a year or so before fast enough
CPUs come out to show true SLI potential.
id suggest, u get a SLI capable MB, spend money on a FAST CPU, as fast as u can afford. and get a sinlge 6800 GT PCI-E card for now and get the 2nd later when they cheap.
Power supply. get no less then a 450, id really go with 500+ and be sure its a 24 pin connector.

Thanks for the info guys.
Whels, would you mind giving me the frame rate on 1280 resolution, with details maxed out, with 4x AA 8AF.... in a big fight near some cities/buildings etc. The sort of situation that slows down on Radeon 9800 2800+ type setups.

Yup me and Whels figured out how to do custom profiles so we could get his SLI setup working with AH2.
You just have to edit the nvapps.xml file.
-
I must have missed that discussion. Could you share with the group your edit of the nvapps.xml?
-
When you install the nVidia drivers it creates a file called nvapps.xml.
In order to enable SLI you have to edit it and include an entry for whatever game you want SLI enbled for.
Easiest way is to take an existing entry eg IL2 and copy/paste then edit appropriate entries.
I am sure Whels can post his entry for AH2, can't remember exactly what we figured out.
NB - If you update drivers you HAVE to go through the process again as the update will install a fresh nvapps.xml file.
-
ahh ok, I was under the impression there were certain values you needed to enter with the name. Thanks

if your game doesnt have a predone app file by Nvidia, the only way to make SLI work is to make your own entry and try different
settings on the multi-gpu line. example, my AH entry.
the line where u see multichip_render_mode, the value can be many things but most time its either 0 (off), 1, 2, or 4.
1 = split frame i think, 2 = alternant frame, dont know what 4 is.
but u can force games to use SLI. here is a beta tool to force games.

4 may be the use single card option.

Those boards are out now?
Very cool
I read about them on Tomshardware and was wondering how much those motherboards would be and how well they functioned.
What CPU are you guys running?

I'm running a AMD64 3500 right now.

I'm running an Athlon64 3500+ also. I noticed that when I initially got into the game, I was getting great framerates. Looking at the sky would produce framerates over 210. Looking at the ground would produce rates around 65. However, after flying for about an hour and a half, my framerates were down around 45 pretty consistantly. It's almost like the SLI stopped working after a while.
Anybody else notice anything like that.
I also noticed that either Multi-GPU mode seems to work well.
