No fatalites, so it's OK to laugh, and laugh loudly   :lol

"While a TV weatherman hung his head in shame — telling viewers his forecast of a mere dusting was "embarrassing" — the mayor vented at meteorologists for leaving Raleigh unprepared for Wednesday's storm.

"A forecast that had given a better indication of the likely problem would have been very helpful," Mayor Charles Meeker said.

Residents — particularly those who have lived in other parts of the country — couldn't believe the city was brought to its knees by just an inch of snow.

"I just don't think they're equipped to handle it," said Lori Jamieson, who's from Pennsylvania.

That city must be full of old people who drive 10 MPH if they see so much as a single snowflake

We got about 2" here in Mclean, VA. I didn't leave work for three hours because I could see the traffic not moving from my building.

When I finally left work, traffic was still a mess in Mclean but ran smoother once I got out of there. When I was going down a road that was still covered in snow, just before getting to my house, some dip**** decided to turn from oncoming traffic past the lane I was in onto another street. I was going 50 and had a green light that just turned yellow. I was very close to the intersection. They pull out going, at what I guess, was a mile per hour. I narrowly missed them by carefully guiding my car into the left lane, but had to jerk back right to avoid sliding into the median. This jerk bellybutton gets off without a problem, I'm now going almost sideways down a highway. Luckily it was pretty much a straightaway and I got the car back under control before it went into a turn.

People in the DC metro area simply can't drive for **** when it snows or rains, or is even overcast.

The people who couldnt deal with it should be more embarrassed then the weatherman.
And the mayor should be venting at the people for being so weak.

And inch IS a mere dusting

Sounds like a stretch of Rt 18 in the East Brunswick south River area here in NJ.

You get so much as some snow flurries there and people act like its a full blown blizzard.

I blame it mostly on the people from South River.

Very weird lot that lives there.

I honestly believe that DC's inclimate weather traffic problems are the result of a fairly high transient population. There are drivers from all over the country and the world who are here for a year or two. It only takes one guy from Miami to shut down I66, and a guy from San Diego can take out the Beltway.

And of course, people who think their hot **** in the snow don't help things, when they go sliding into intersections trying to go around the Sunshine staters.

I just try to stay off the roads all together when there's any kind of weather.

One to two inches overnight tonight, and an additional three to five inches of snow tomorrow.

I hope we here in Columbus can survive this blizzard.

I hope the power doesn't go out again.  I have not hooked up my new battery powered backup sump pump yet.  :(

What's even funnier is to overcompensate for Wednesday's blunder they forecasted a snow storm to end all snow storms for today.  Imagine my amazement when I woke up this morning to find the sun shining bright, and a little wetness on the ground.

There's a new Volkswagen commercial with the man driving through rain when the forecast was slightly cloudy, driving in clear skies when snow was predicted, then driving through snow when the forecast was sunny, then getting out of his car and having a snowball thrown at him as the camera zooms out of him standing in front of a billboard revealing that he is the weatherman.

Comedic timing for this ad, I would say.:)

stranded 3,000 students in Raleigh, N.C., classrooms overnight.

In Raleigh, a mere inch of snow was all it took to cripple North Carolina's capital

1 inch?

:lol

:rofl

What? They don't know how to walk?

We're supposedly in for it tonight.  North Dakota and Minnesota are in the thick of it right now.  Predicting 10" in southeastern WI.

Dude, all they need to do is get some fighter jets (like F-14s) and have them fly full afterburner about 5 feet off the ground along the roads.  The flames will melt the snow.  Since F-14s can go about 2000mph, they will have the streets cleared in no time!

The problem was not the snow, it was the idiot city dwellers that have no common sense. "The sign said 55 MPH"...Well dipstick, that's dry road, optimum conditions.

I used to train truckdrivers and once had a trainee wake me up when we were sliding backwards down a mountain in Wyoming. He got off the sanded lane because he was afraid the paint would get chipped.

I have an inch of snow on the driveway right now and I don't know if I should use a shovel, use a broom, or see if we actually get that 10" tonight and tomorrow and  use the snowblower or just let the wheels pack it down if we don't :)

I vote the lazy option; whichever one happens to work best.

Greetings Gentlemen,

Having lived in Florida for the first thirty years of my life I had zero experience driving in snow.  My first year in south - central Virginia proved an adventure.

Something I've noticed is when the forecasters call for snow(The first or second snow of the year). People freak out.  There is a run to the grocery stores etc...  And people not having driven on snow for the prior eight months do stupid things on the first couple of snows.  Another thing I've never understood is why it seems thw whole city closes at once and people "flood" the streets before the salt trucks have a chance of putting down chemicals.

My wife and I both will wait until the idiots get off the roads before traveling to our destinations.  There is nothing funnier than seeing twenty or thirty cars in the ditch on the way home.  Occasionally I'll pull someone out if they are still with their car.

As for the comment about old people, it's usually not them who are in the ditch, it's usually the younger drivers who don't have much experience.

And no, I've not had an accident yet after eight years of living here.  I haven't even run off the road ...yet.

One thing that is a problem in our area is black ice...

Well, the 10" option came through. The list of potentially lazy options has vanished and it's time to fire up the snowblower. Maybe an Irish coffee or two to firm the spirt.
