Title: trasparent window reflection texture
Post by: eilif on January 22, 2005, 01:44:19 AM
I have seen transparent window reflection textures in alot of sims these days, any chance we will get some in ah? I think its  a simple way to get some emersion withought any real draw backs. Many ah cockpits are tinted already, just put a transparent layer on top of that and there ya go.  It does take some savey artistic skills to get it to look right tho, i bet natedogs up for a challenge:)

some refference,

the reflections can be pretty vague, and you dont need to show the pilot in them. Ultamately this will just give the glass some form, and make it more convincing.

That would be great. Along with the ultrasun we have now that can shine right through a clipboard we could have reflection laser beams bouncing around in the cockpit so it would be impossible to see in any dorection. The art of flying backwards would finaly get the attention it deserves.

i think its a great idea, if its not overdone so it will block the view out side. like others are saying

Makes no sense to me.  A reflection would have to be caused by an intense light source inside the cockpit.  The reason you see it in the photos is because of flash photography.

Think of it this way.  When was the last time you saw a well defined reflection in the windshield of you car?

I think it would be nice if we could have something to define the presence of glass, but nothing THAT profound.

Thank You Scrap. :aok
Heck i wont hardly play AH2 unless the Sun is at 10 to 2 o-clock in the sky as it is. The blinding factor may be realistic. But i dont enjoy it in the least. Its just an irritation. I play for enjoyment.
I have to deal with Sun Glare in the Truck every day, who needs it while trying to unwind playing a "game."

We already have that, turn up your quality and look closely at the new planes.

No more eyestrain factors, please!!

the problem with doing this is that would extra texture in the tex mem could push some cards over the edge.  They tend to lower FR's a bit to on older cards and no one wants crappy frame rates in the pit.   Now if you make it an option to turn off and on that might work better.

i'm guessing that the glass now it only tinted cause nate and super have it set to that greyish color.  Its not texture mapped for the stuff above. That's if they are still using the same modeler that did in AH1.

i dont think most of you guys are understanding what im getting at. I hate to say this but look at il2, its not a moving texture and its defanantly not as pronounced as the photos i put in.  Its most pronounced in curved bubble canopys like the p51, and the me 163. You  really dont notice it unless you look closely. Its just a nice simple window texture, i think the ones we have are a bit bland, and this would be an easy addition if the artist executed it well.

Now there ya go right there.
To hell with IL2 and the Willy Wonka eye candy factory.
This is not IL2 and thank the gods that watch over AH that it`s not.

What's wrong with trying to make the game LOOK as realistic as possible, and have the game we love to play so much?

Why say to hell with IL2 when it's the best looking game on the market? Eilif isn't saying make this game IL2, he wants AH2 like the rest of us, but why not make this game look better than it does now?

I don't know why you guys are so insulted by comparisons.

That may be your opinion, but certainly not mine. To me it`s teh suck. I view it as taking a single chocolate covered cherry, then wrapping it in an expensive flashy gold covered wrapper with filigree all over it then placing it on a shiny display case with all the gliitter to catch attention  and selling them for $2.00 a pop. When you bite into the heart of it, it is just a big disapointment.  You can go around the corner and buy a whole box by Brachs for a buck and a half. They are better tasting with more quality.
If IL2 is the shiznits for you then why not go play IL2?

HT and crew have bigger things in the works than trying to make the cigar ashes on the floor in the cockpit look like handrolled Cuban ashes. :D

dont hijack my thread! i would like to see the glass get some attention, some basic reflection textures seem like the hot ticket to me, if you have any recomendations, this is the place for it. something that isnt distracting, or system taxing, but imersive is what im looking for.

Jackal, when did I ever say anything about gameplay? I'm talking graphics. Everyone is so afraid of mentioning IL2 for fear of ticking people off for some reason.

Each game is extremely unique in it's own right. I like both for different reasons. Fact of the matter is, IL2 looks pretty darn good compared to IL2.

Adding window reflections will only add to the realism. Nothing wrong with pushing HiTech to improve graphics while keeping the base gameplay of the game.

Pay attention to what your reading before you say things like, "if you like that game better, go play it!" If you can't admit IL2 LOOKS better, then you're in serious denial. Gameplay was never mentioned, like I said before.

And so am I. So what`s your point?

I disagree and I don`t think you will "push" HT into anything.

Oh I was paying real close attention bud. Were you? I think not.
Maybe you should not worry about how close of attention I am paying to what I`m reading and pay a little bit more attention to what your typing . I refer you to the little gem below. :D

BTW way IL2 compared to IL2 looks pretty darn good. Compare it to anything else and it`s cheesy IMHO.:D

It LOOKS like a flashy , tinzeled POS. I refer you to my analogy above if you can get it through your head that I`m talking about the way it looks instead of something you conjured up.
Your right , gameplay was never mentioned...by me, but you seem hung up on refering to it.
Anytime you come into the BBS and post ideas such as this you are going to get peeps who like your ideas and peeps who don`t. If it ruffles your feathers that I happen to disagree with you on this subject and am posting as such, then I think you are in for a long bitter haul here on the boards.
If you can`t handle someone disagreeing with you here, then next time e-mail it direct to HT, but I wouldn`t use the "push terminology if I were you . Of course that`s just me.

No feathers ruffled here.

If you think the fire, ground textures, water, and most other graphics are better in AH2, get your eyes checked. You're obviously entitled to your opinion, I just happen to seriously disagree with ya.

Also, the "push" term wasn't an aggressive term meaning anything other than something for HiTech to strive for. Some of the best ideas given to game producers come from the fanbase/players. What's wrong with posting up or emailing things you'd like to see in this game? Don't you "push" yourself to be better?

You seem to take my post as a personal attack on AH2 for some reason. I don't understand your reaction to either my posts.

Edit:

Bring back the night! AMEN BROTHA!

Well now that`s pretty obvious. I`m proud to see ya admit it.
Until you started out on the jumping to a conclusion about what I was actualy saying instead of putting words in my mouth......errrrrrrr fingers, I was simply stating that I think the idea blows chunks the size of watermelons. Does that clear it up for you?
You have a right to your opinion and I have a right to disagree with you. Mmmmmkay? :D

Several planes in Pacific Fighters have this reflection thing and personally I can't stand it.  AH is already hard enough on the eyes without adding something else to obstruct our view.

If you want reflections in the cockpit you might talk HT into putting in a sun visor out of a `57 Buick in with a lighted mirror on the back.
It could double as a makeup mirror for Duchess.  ............................. .............
............................. .............................
On second thought, Duchess doesn`t need any makeup. Nevermind. :D

we already have reflections on the dashboard and guages, doesnt seem to far fetched to consider puting them on the windows, but its probably a long ways off so we might as well just sit it out.

Ok here's a couple screen captures I took from IL2 this morning.  (http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/191_1106506905_f6fdirty.jpg)
First is an F6F. note the horribly dirty canopy.
Next an F4F. again the same green texture, especially on the left hand side.
and finally a P51.  3 o'clock view.

Granted we've come along way from AH1, but lets have some foresight here for AH2. We already have, and am getting more, eye candy (which by the way is fully customizable thanks to HTC and some sliders). Adding to this would not in any way compromise what we already have now. Immersion is as important as gameplay, and as long as we are able to customize to suit our needs and frame rates, so be it; let it happen. But its funny to see how adamant some of you are about your 'game' and the 'changes' that are made. Like some of you are still driving Model T's :lol
