Title: Don't move the controls so rapidly??? HiTech?
Post by: Mox on February 08, 2000, 10:48:00 AM
Ever since version 1.0 came out I now get this message once or twice an hour and I usually die everytime from it.

How do I fix this?  Autotrim even does it sometimes.

What is the purpose of it anyway?  As soon as I get the message I loose ALL control of the plane for about 30-45 seconds. It's almost like a command people seem to envoke when they are chasing me to either run me into the ground or make me fly straight and level!  =)

I have been setting up my config on my joystick (MS Force Pro) the exact same way since ver .45 and now I seem to have this problem which has caused approximetly 30 deaths so far.

Anyone have any ideas?

Mox,

This is an anti "stick stiring" routine. (prevents warps induced by flopping your jstick around)  If you are getting this in auto trim or when flying normally I would expect you try recalibrating your jstick in windows then in AH.  Also worn pots can cause some spiking and set it off also.

I have a serious problem with this, though it's worse in patch 2 than it was in 1.00.
I can be climbing along in autoclimb, not even touching the keyboard or my sticks, and out of the blue autoclimb disengages and I see this msg 2-3 times in the buffer.
There have been plenty of times I've been diving on a con, ease the stick just a tad to pull lead for the shot and everything freezes up.

I've also had problems with holding the keypad5 to keep my eye on my target.  When I pull back on the stick the nose acts like I'm slamming the stick back-forward-back-forward til I let go of 5, then it'll pull smoothly around.

If it's "anti stick routine" then it only seems to be effecting some people because when I'm on someones tail less than 200 and I've ran them out of E they can flip and flop all of the place.. if I try to follow them.. BAM! I'm screwed by this "anti-cheat code".

Would adjusting the "dead zone" or "dampers" help with this?  I re-calibrate my stick in win98 and in AH everytime I play.

I'm by no means flying eradict when this is happening.  I have a very good connection.. I'm on a T1 less than 15 people use it and I'm in Dallas, TX a few hops away from the server.

Is my connection too good?  Maybe the code needs to be tweaked again?

Mox,

Yeah bumping up your damper a little may help.  The flopping you are seeing at close range is a function of the net sometimes.  The rate at which the con's position is udated and what he is doing at time can combine to make the guy look like he is really flopping around sometimes.  But if you think thats bad just imagine what it would be like if the guy could slam the stick full left then right and full up and down.  If you'd like a good demonstration of this just log into the Main arena in Warbirds and mix it up with a FW-190.

Maybe they changed something...the funny part is I didn't change my config...

Last night I only had this problem 3 times  in about 5 hours all of which resulting in a death.

Thanks for the help Sharky.
