is that fake??
the fire looks much better than AH fire is all.
nice pic tho :aok
-
the fire is actually zeke #1 splattered all over the Wildcat, though. you can clearly see zeke #2 buggin' out and goin' hooooome. :D
-
people complain about the water....i think it looks great even still captured.
-
Bat look close and you can see the f4f's canopy pulled back and the pilot trying to shield himself from the heat, as he trys to get out.
-
I think he is trying to wipe blood from zeke number one off his windshield so that he can see the fleeing zeke number two.

Question: When bailing out, how easy was it to avoid striking the tail? How easy was it to bail out?
-
musta been fairly easy... some germans did it dozens of times.

You flipped the plane upside down for bailing -> gravity did the job for you.

Check this film out (http://www.zenoswarbirdvideos.com/P38.html )

On bailing.
I was under the impression that this is/was a well used procedure:
Open canopy.
Loosen harness, belt or whatever.
Put the plane in shallow climb.
Trim plane full down/forward, and pull hard on stick to keep same attitude as before trim.
Let go of stick, and pretty much eject out of cockpit.
I was a bit vague in the opening line;) I know for a fact this is and was a procedure to bail.

hehe, i always liked the part in the p38 film where they remind ya not to swan dive onto the elevator but to fall inbetween the nacels. :rofl

Some pilots were killed by striking the tail. This is how Hans-Joachim Marseille died. He was bailing out after an engine malfuction was causing power loss and fumes in the cockpit of his Bf109G-2.
-
George Bush Sr smacked the tail of his Avenger on the way out.

Nice screenie Filth. :)
