Yeah man, there's like these freedoms... and we gotta give them to EVERYONE. 'Cuz they're so cool. Some countries that already gottem are gonna look at us like we've gone bat5hit, and the ones that don't, well shreck-em. Either they'll figure it out, or ta hell with them.

Personally? Cracks me up to see some guy saying "We invaded to bring these guys human rights and democracy" then two days later says "Nuke 'em for all I care."

Be honest.... Nobody here gives a rat's bellybutton about those folks.

The "why we invaded them speaks to the nations reason for doing it.  The "Nuke 'em " comment speaks to the individuals personal feelings.  I see no conflict in the two statements.  With virtually every policy or action the government makes, there are those who dont necessarily agree, but can at least understand why the policy exist or the action taken.

appearantly, the aussies werent impressed.

not sure how i feel about it...but heres a quote regarding the inaguration in general.  its pretty funny if only for the cheeseburger line.

"George Bush's second inaugural extravaganza was every bit as repugnant as I had expected, a vulgar orgy of triumphalism probably unmatched since Napoleon crowned himself emperor of the French in Notre Dame in 1804. The little Corsican corporal had a few decent victories to his escutcheon. Lodi, Marengo, that sort of thing. Not so this strutting Texan mountebank, with his chimpanzee smirk and his born-again banalities delivered in that constipated syntax that sounds the way cold cheeseburgers look, and his grinning plastic wife, and his scheming junta of neo-con spivs, shamans, flatterers and armchair warmongers, and his sinuous evasions and his brazen lies, and his sleight of hand theft from the American poor, and his rape of the environment, and his lethal conviction that the world must submit to his Pax Americana or be bombed into charcoal." - Mike Carlton, Sydney Morning Herald.

ouchie.

but this is really where i find the greatest flaw with the narcissism of america.  i have no doubt that were i to have half a clue what was going on elsewhere, i too could speak of them this way were it warranted.

im pretty sure that politicians suck universally.

Bush used liberty or Freedom every 30 seconds for the entire 22 minute speech. That was no shock to me he loves to talk about how historic this era is and all that. Sometimes I think he is more concerned about how the history books are gonna reflect on him than anything else.  The only surprise I saw was that he didn't mention 9/11 or maybe he did and I missed it. That was truly unBush like. I like freedom and liberty too but I am beginning to think that countries that dont have it and after seeing how we handled Iraq dont want us to liberate them. Anything gets annoying when its crammed down your throat over and over. He didnt even bring up domestic issues. I think he is a very poor speaker. He laughs and smirks when he talks about Iraq. I dont find the situation over ther funny at all but bush grins a lot when he gets started on his freedom rants. That freedom came at a huge price and I think he is disrespectful to be smiling and laughing when discussing Iraq. He should be somber and serious and it makes me think he just doesnt grasp the seriousness of the situation.

could be worse though.

Pope satirist convicted in Poland
Jerzy Urban

Urban insisted he was just exercising freedom of speech
One of Poland's best known newspaper editors has been fined $6,500 (£3,457) for ridiculing Pope John Paul II.

A court in Warsaw found Jerzy Urban guilty of insulting a head of state by writing a satirical article on the eve of the pontiff's 2002 visit to Poland.

Mr Urban, 71, said he was exercising the right to free expression.

Earlier, the press freedom group Reporters without Borders said a prosecution would set a "dangerous precedent" for an EU state.

In the early 1980s Mr Urban was spokesman for the last communist government of Poland, which cracked down on the Solidarity freedom movement.

He is now better known as the editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper Nie - "No" in English.

Complaints

In his article, titled Walking Sadomasochism, Mr Urban referred to the Pope's frailty, describing him as "the Brezhnev of the Vatican" and an "impotent old man".

When published ahead of the Polish-born Pope's last visit to his homeland in August 2002 it provoked numerous complaints.

"The court has no doubts that intending to ridicule the church, Jerzy Urban ridiculed and derided the pope," the verdict said, according to the Associated Press.

Opponents of Mr Urban, who attended the trial, shouted "too little" when the fine was announced, the agency reports. Prosecutors had requested a 10-month suspended prison sentence.

The BBC's Adam Easton in Warsaw says the Pope's standing among Poles is so high that almost any public criticism of the Pope is taboo.

if skerry had won and had said the same thing, the left would be falling all over themselves saying what a historic speech it was...

it was a great speech, delivery was a bit rough (norm) but the content can not be disputed

Actually the content can be disputed  quite easily.

For instance he said "From now on, he said, his administration will not "ignore" or "excuse" oppression in any country"

So does that include US allies that fail to measure up to his freedom standards like - Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, which get lousy ratings on human rights from the US  State Department but are counted as allies in the war on terrorism.

What about Russia? Putin has been busy dismantling anything resembling a democratic institution in Russia and reasserting authoritarian rule. Then there's China, whose growing economic power and influence with North Korea make it easy for Bush to "excuse" Beijing's  human rights record.

Personally I thought it was a very poor speech poorly delivered as always. No wonder the guy had a heart attack.

The guy who had to re-write the speech about 25 times. Probably had another when he watched Bush deliver it.
