Title: Do you guys really want Dr Dean?
Post by: Gunslinger on January 25, 2005, 07:11:28 PM
Was watching the news today and saw that Howard Dean is still making a play for the chairmanship of the DNC.

I really have to ask some of the DEMOCRATS (notice I didnt say liberals because it's applicable to the thread) do you really want this guy running your party?

This is serious question not a troll.....I just do not think Howard Dean is in touch with today's America at all.  It's people like him that want to move the party more left rather than centering it.  Is a move to the left the right answer?  Do you really think becoming more left will help you relate to the "small minded simpletons" of the red states?

To me I see it as if the GOP handed the chairmenship over to somone like Ann coulter or Rush Limbaugh......just not a smart move IMHO.....for you guys that is....me I say Bring him on!

seriously not a troll.  I'm kinda curious what RPM and Sandman might say.  They usually have pretty good insight into the mind of a surviving breathing liberal.

Seriously not a troll...I think it would make an interesting discussion.  :)

Have you actually looked into Dean, or are you making assumptions based on his run for the Presidential nomination?  I'd support Dean running things for the Democrats alot sooner than I would some of the other leeches we've got hanging on.  I do think the Democrats in Washington have a long way to go before they get in touch with the average person in America again, but Dean isnt that bad.  At least, from the impression I've gotten, he's willing to listen.  Thats a plus in my book.

Was a move to the right, the right answer for the Republicans? Seems to have worked out okay.

A common theme in the critique of the Kerry campaign is that they blew it by wasting all their time worrying about getting the "undecided's" vote. Whereas the Bush's win is seen as a result of blowing off the moderates and getting their base to turn out.

It's prolly time to face the fact that the US is pretty solidly divided. Pandering to the middle makes less and less sense when that middle is rapidly facing extinction.

It would seem, anyways.

But, nay to Dean.

Dean is the worst choice possible.  He has proven to be somewhat of a loose cannon.  Even his campaign manager Joe Trippy is not supporting him.

Martin Frost almost won the district he moved to after having his old one redrawn ( a republican district).  I think based on that perfomance alone he is the best choice.  He also has the experience,  contacts, orginization and the savy.  In other words, the Dems will never pick him.

I find it hard to believe that dean represents moderate or conservative democrats.  I think calling dean a liberal democrat does the term liberal a disservice.

Dean is a radical progressive socialist that represnts the extreme left in american politics.

Rejoice if he gains the chair.

that's my thinking of the guy too yeager.  Alot of those who associate w/ demacrats or even liberals arent the extremest hippies we so often make them....others arent fans of socialism.....to me I just don't see how his ideals can dig the DNC out of their hole.

They should hire Bill Clinton.. and no I'm not kidding.

He is probably the finest politician to hold the office in the last 50 years.

I'm with MT, but on the other hand, I'm a little sick of the politicians on both sides pandering to the middle. It lacks courage.

Sure, Willy Jeff is slick, but Dean at least has passion.

I think MTs got a point though....slick willy doesnt really need to pander because he KNOWs how to play politics and is actually a very charismatic person.

Yes Hawker I said it....not really an amazing statement or sig material as I do lean to the right I am more of a libertarian than a republican.  Most of my ideals are based loosly on the morals my parents raised me with, common sense, and my personal association with those on the left with liberal hippie flag burning communists.   ;)

The next election is going to be an interesting one.  The Dems are gonna have to start from scratch because ABB wont get them many votes next time.

I think Dean is a very smart cookie, but not what the party as a whole needs IMO. I didn't follow his campaign that closely during the early primaries because I was a Clark supporter. The DNC definitely needs a shot in the arm. Willie Jeff would be a great chair, but no way does he take it.

Have Dean all you like.

I couldn't care less who is in charge of what.

I just want a Presidential candidate that I want to vote for. Not the one that's the lesser of 2 evils.

I can't remember the last person I actually voted FOR.

Hell I would actually vote for Hillary if I was truley convinced she would do something about illegal aliens and not tax the crap out of us.

 Laz I havnt!

Still given a choice between Bush(dip**** who spends to much and wont close the borders), kerry(lying weasely scumbag) and Clinton (fantastic politician and scumbag) I would choose clinton as the lessor of the evils.

He did not do that much damage to the 2nd.

What I really want is a politician to stand up and be for closing the border, cutting government spending while at the same time cleans the government up, who wants less government intrusions into our lives and is truely for the second amendment.

I will never get that. It sucks choosing between lesser evils.

i personally have alot of respect for dr. dean.  he is a good organizer, a decent man with non offending values.  he is a congregationalist, which means that he is for self interpretation of the bible, he is a doctor which i like because it shows that his first interest is the health of an organism, he is steadfast but reasonable and he has demonstrated that he can raise both money and an issue faster than a monkey can eat a peanut.

wouldnt make a good president, but i have no doubt that he might be able to find on.

if i were the dems.  id go for it.

i am actually more of moderate.

i am a social liberal and a fiscal conservative...both of which the republicans have historically claimed to be, but are not.  i laugh every time they tout "conservatism" then go off and destroy some land or jack the deficit up to ungodly proportions.  niether of these actions "conserving" anything.

i thought you were a neo-fascist bullyboy and everyone knows they lack the capacity for reason and humanity.

Regardless, Dean would have my vote for the DNC Chair.  He'll have to pull a miracle out of his prettythang to find and field a decent candidate for the next election, but if anyone could I'd bet its him.

The only Dem. I see who even remotely has the kind of charisma and broad appeal necessary to run for Pres. wont be ready in 4 years.  Barack Obama.  He is educated, well spoken, charismatic, and well liked even by his opponents.  He also has that "rags to riches" background that Clinton played on so heavily.  Midwestern senator, with international ties and a good sense of leadership.  Give him 2 terms in the Senate to get a chance to really make a name for himself.  Then watch out.
