Title: Kev367th....Sharkmouth Seafire profile for you
Post by: Guppy35 on January 27, 2005, 01:19:03 AM
Took some digging. This is what I found.  Sorry the quailty of the profile and scan aren't that good.  It does have all the detail though including the carrier it served on.

I'd have to dig, but it's not the Spit V.  Seafire Mk II that we have is a Spit V.  The Seafire Mk III may not have a direct paralell to the Spitfire.  It was far better than the Seafire Mk II and more prolific too.

Research I did showed Seafire C-A with the sharksmouth as a IIc not a III.

The paralell is to the Spitfire Vc.  It was much the same as the Seafire II except it had folding wings.  Seafire III used the Merlin 55 etc as did some Spitfire Vcs.  De-Navalized Seafire IIIs went to the Irish AF after the war and in essence they were Spit Vcs.

Obviously they used multiple exhaust stacks instead of the 3 like on most Spit Vs but there are numerous photos of late Spit Vs using the 6 single exhausts too.

I don't know the serial.  I've never seen a photo of the sharkmouth Seafire.  The profile turned up in Spitfire-The History by EB Morgan.  He didn't list a serial but did ID it as a Seafire III.

Personally I think it's doable as the Seafire II.  But that's just me :)

Asked if they would accept a Seafire III on a IIc, was told no.
Said they won't accept skins for any plane they may model in the future.

How can we know which planes they may model in the future?

I have been working on an Operation Torch skin for the P-40E, but the real aircraft was the Merlin-powered P-40F.

Who did you ask, Kev?   Does Skuzzy know?    I believe Pyro said their target was 100 planes modeled, but I don't know whether that means additional models of the P-40...

Oboe - Skuzzy mentioned it while I was asking about skins different Mks of aircraft.
Please don't all get your hopes up it was "MAY" be modelled in the future.
He just used it as an example as I was asking about a Seafire III skin on a IIc

Not to worry, I rarely fly Spits.

But Skuzzy's comment about not accepting skins for models that may be modelled in the future makes it more difficult to decide which skins to do - for example, the P-40 has many more potential  skins, but we only have the P-40E and B to work with.
I have found some real nice schemes but they are on P-40Fs, P-40Ls, P-40Ks, or P-40Ns.    But I don't know if HTC may model any of these variants in the future, so I can't determine if I should do the skin or not.

Bit of a quandary.   I really like the look of the Torch invasion scheme, with the yellow outline around the US insignia.

Best thing I've found to do is call them.
Good example is my Spit with the narrow invasion stripes (grey/blue one).
Was originally a Mk7 but by DDay the pointy tips had been removed and normal ones fitted. After speaking to Skuzzy who spoke to Pyro they said go ahead.

Thanks, Kev.   I'll prolly do that or email, but not until they are less busy with 2.02.   Looks like today is the day!
