Title: WTF is wrong with your press (only?)
Post by: bikekil on January 27, 2005, 12:12:53 PM
This is a part of the New York Times article:
"The commemoration means different things to each nation: for Russia it is a commemoration of its often-overlooked role as liberator, while for Poland and other Central European countries it is both part of a gradual recognition of their complicity in the killing and an opportunity to draw closer to Europe. Poland and several other former Soviet bloc countries joined the European Union last year and the rest are waiting to join."
full article is here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/27/international/europe/27auschwitz.html?oref=regi

Our complicity? WTF? With another 60 years "you" gonna say that Poland started a war, built the camps with "polish gas chambers" to kill the enemies?
i can't fu#$%ng believe what i see...

someone needs a better education...

what else can i say... the same things were posted in some of the British, French, Russian and Czech newspapers... really impressive...

bikekil,

Do not take the New York Times as a reading on the people of America.  A good majority of us realise what Poland went through in WW2, including the fact that Roosevelt and Churchill sold your nation out to appease blood thirsty Stalin's desire for revenge.  As for Aushwitz, I too know that the Polish people did not build the camps, nor did they want them, as many Polish citizens perished there.

Unfortunately the NY Times is a far fetched liberal rag that has no concept of reality.

to you and yours, and a big to all those who were lost in the camps.

Listen to what Bodhi said.  There are over 1400 newspapers in the US.  Please don't treat the NYT as some sort of voice of the US.

god.  that sounds like a pretty dumb thing to print, though i didnt find the quote that you posted in the link...perhaps i was scanning too quickly.  i wasnt looking too hard, but i was wondering if they might have stated a reason.

if i were you, i'd write a letter to the editor.

its not entirely impossible that it wont get published.  and it will certainly count among those who object to its type of reporting.

i am one of those, dont close your eyes and ignore it guys.

just a thought.

:)

Don't worry bud, I respect Poland more then anything else in Europe.  You held off Germany longer then France did...

You even charged a tank outfit with Horses.  Now that takes balls.

They give NYT away free at my school if that tells ya anything. Any paper that sways to far one way or another is worthless.

Especailly here on this board i expect that anyone knows something about WW2 :-)

I thought that New York times or The Independent (for UK?) are some bigger titles (as i hear about them here in my lil Poland... so i was and i still am... shocked about what i see there...

still not agains anyone except the stupidity of the guys who published it

Bike, write a letter to the editor, and tell them how you feel.  If you like, one of us can go over it for grammar and spelling before you send it.

There's no excuse for that kind of ignorance on the part of a publication of the stature of the NYT.

We get the Wall Street Journal for free at OU.  Half of it is interesting.  The editorial's are just as weak as the NYT though.

Doesn't seem to be much wrong with the Independent's coverage of it: http://news.independent.co.uk/europe/story.jsp?story=604973 (http://news.independent.co.uk/europe/story.jsp?story=604973) Although I'm too cheap to be able to read the leading Article. Am I missing something?
