Title: 109G skin request
Post by: Krusty on January 27, 2005, 03:07:10 PM
Judging by canopy it'd fit a G-10.

Oh, and as much as I love the yellow nosed F-4 we have now, how about this:

I'm a sucker for great 109 skins!

What a coincidence - my 10 yr old son just built that 109 last weekend.   I was thinking about having a go at skinning it but couldn't find any references to it's unit.    Its got a nice blue/wht/blue theater marking band on the fuselage...

Do the instructions say what version of the 109G it is? Is it a G-14? A G-10?

If you could scan the painting instructions that would be most helpful for skinners, as well (and for me! I'd love to build a 109 in that paint scheme -- just in 1/72 scale)

Nope, the instructions were very poor regarding the aircraft's detail information and history.

Also, the art on the box cover is far more helpful regarding the color scheme than the instructions - that's what I'd go by if I was skinning it.   But I can scan and post them if you like.

A G10 or G14 from JG 300 seems to be a good guess, but I'd think HTC would want some solid references before letting it in the game.    I did a search on JG 300 Me109 and found some pics of G6s with the blau/weiss/blau fuselage bands, but I don't know if that's conclusive enough...

I wouldn't mind a scan of the instructions.

Ask Coyo. He did a smashing 109G from JG 300 (it's not official, though). He must have done some research on the matter.

Oboe: Many thanks! I will definitely have to build one of those using that scheme!

Interesting... the crosses are "mid wing" rather than "outboard wing"... Usually that's an early design, but this is a G-10, with apparently JG 300 markings, which is definitely late war. I wonder if it's an accurate scheme.

It's Yellow 7; is there any way to tell from that which staffel in JG 300 it belonged to?

According to this it would APPEAR to be 3 Staffel, I gruppe.

However I think they reused colors on certain staffels.

How can you tell?  What are the indicators?

Btw I found Coyo's JG300 G10 at AH custom skins, and it has the blue/wht/blue and yellow 7, but doesn't have the same colors in the overall camo scheme - seems to be missing the brown/tan
camo color...

Did each staffel or group have a yellow 7?   Or did each staffel have its own color?

I wouldn't want to duplicate Coyo's effort; but they appear to be different planes.

Staffel is roughly equal to a squad right?   And Gruppe is the same as a U.S. fighter group?    So a JG would be equiv to a Fighter Wing?
