Maybe some of you have seen something like this before...
My computer, every so often about 2-3 times a month, will lock up. When it does I can hear the HD "spin up" or reboot and it makes the same noise it does when you power up the system. Everything works for about 5-10 seconds after the HD noise and then everything locks up, no ALT-TAB or CTL-ALT-DEL.
Any ideas? The HD, a WD 40G ATA, is about 12 months old but I guess it could be going bad? Im clear of viruses and adware so I think its something hardware related, but I have not changed anything in a long time.

First thing I would check is the power supply.

Make sure that the power management settings are the same on all accounts. I had my account set to never sleep and when someone else used the "switch user" button to get to the account that had sleep mode set to 1 hour and logged off, one hour later the same thing would happen.
