Title: Flight Jackets
Post by: 2stony on January 28, 2005, 04:52:52 PM
I posted a similar thread a couple of years ago, but hey, there are new members since then.
I collect flight jackets. Those being from WW2, Korea or Vietnam. Those also being AAF, Navy or Air Force. I pay cash. I also collect pictures of people wearing flight jackets.
Even if you have one but don't want to sell it, I can give you a lot of information about them. Please just reply to this thread and I'll contact you.

I work for an air museum and one of my jackets is on loan and display, so I have that opportunity first hand. I'm looking for more jackets for my collection.
Also, my experiance is that museums want you to donate and don't buy much if they can help it.

Thanks
:)

I have one at the present time, but it's a little unusual. After the war, the guy was into motorcycles and he had the sleeves removed(and professionally sewn). It has the squadron patch painted on the front and 27 bombs on the back. It's a size 38. I just sold one on ebay yesterday and another last month. I know a lot of flight jacket collectors, so I can find you one no problem. I can also enlighten you as to makers, styles, etc. if you want that info too. I have a lot of info on Navy jackets too.
     Let me know!

Well, since I wear a large size not likely found in the "real" jackets, I bought a modern replica in sheepskin (bomber jacket).

I feel cool in it, even if most people roll their eyes

TalonX, I have an original large sheepskin jacket I'm going to sell. It's true though, as the larger sizes are hard to find. Big guys usually didn't have flight status and the majority of the guys were 19 years old and still wore size 38-40. WW2 sizes are also a little smaller.

So what are you interested in Bodhi? I currently have 3 Navy jackets. One is WW2, one Korean War and one Vietnam era. I have a Korean War Air Force flight jacket. I also have a painted WW2 A-2, but the guy turned it into a vest. I also have an extremely rare AAF mechanics cap. Navy photo album from Kodiac NAS from WW2 and some other items I can't think of at the moment.
      Let me know.

Not as odd as a lot of things people collect. It's a higher end collectable, so you need to know your product fairly well or it will cost you $$$.

I guess my collection of movie actresses soiled panties might be worth some money some day.

Ah, I love the smell of Cameron Diaz in the morning.  :rofl
