Title: Ostwind ?
Post by: Shade324th on September 18, 2000, 05:36:00 PM
This has porbably been asked before, so sorry for the repeat if so, but I have heard that the ostwind's range is 15k.  Is this so?

I read somewhere on this board that the effective range was 5000 Feet... which is about 1.6K yards.

Theoretical range is close to 3.0K yards which means about 9000 ft. Gettting the right deflection at that alt is close to impossible tho.

I got a kill in an Ostwind at D2.2 last night.  I chaulk it up as a fluke shot, but it was a one hit for a kill.  At that range I was basically just trying to lob shots in.

In regards to OST's vs Tanks, forget it, by the time you get within your OST's guns range, you're dead by an average gunner in a tank. <.backslap on> I've personally hit OST's from a range of 3 miles in my Tank, while moving, for some reason I hit a moving vehicle better than a stationary one...probably because I hunt birds?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)<.backslap off>

Rip, while I agree, for an average gunner in a panzer you only get a shot every couple of seconds.  In the Ostwind you can pound away getting range and probably land a hit before the Panzers gets a hit.  Once an Ostwind has range it can just pour out the rounds for hits and kill a panzer.

I hit Fatty (<S> Fatty, you almost surprised me) last night in an Ostwind.. ranging is not as big a deal with the rapid fire gun and once you've locked in on the range it's only a matter of time before you get the kill.
