Title: What is?
Post by: FTJR on January 29, 2005, 12:52:18 AM
In the video card area there is a box  called "Hardware Vertex Processing". Can someone tell me what that is and what benefit do you get from using it?

Please, and thanks

I believe it has something to do with graphics. Some older video cards were unable to run AH2 because their Vcards didn't have the ability for a certain thing, it might have been T&L {textures and lighting?}.
Checking this allowed the processor to handle this opposed to the video card.
If your video card can do it let it, so don't check it unless you couldn't run AH2 earlier.

Fuzeman is right. if you look at the latest upgrade to the game you wil note:

*Added a number of new or improved graphical effects. There are also two new checkboxes in the Graphic Detail menu to deselect additional effects if frame-rate is a problem on your system.

*AH2 now only ships with 512x512 textures. If you use a max texture size setting of 1024, you will need to download an optional file with the 1024 textures from our download page. Skins will continue to ship in a 1024 format.

*Added an option in the video setup to preload skins. This was not an option before and skins were always preloaded if the preload selection was enabled. This would lead to problems included dumps when connecting to the host if not enough memory was present to load all skins.

Hope this helps explain the new graphics....

I found it. I was wrong on it being textures and lighting, it's transformation and lighting.

Version 2.01 Changes
======================

Added software vertex shading for video cards that do not support hardware transformation and lighting.  There is an option in the video setup labled Hardware Vertex Shading.  If your card does not support hardware T&L, this checkbox will be unchecked and grayed out.  If your card does support it, you will normally want to leave this enabled.

Fuze the last line in your last  answer conflicts with previous answer.

Do I leave it enabled or not? I have an Nvidia 6800 card.

Thanks again

Leave enabled. I think you can only disable it for trouble shooting.

I was contradictory wasn't I :(
'Hardware Vertex Processing' should be checked if your video card supports T&L, enable it.
Uncheck it if your card does not support T&L and it will be acomplished thru software.
