THe New update downloaded but will not let me online. Aces High just closes and I'm back at my desk top. Any thoughts?
-
Yes, I have the same problem.
Here's what happens more precisely:
The program starts, and I'm able to get to the arena selection screen. Then when I try and select any arena, I get a brief flash of a "Loading pre-cache" box, or something like, and then I'm staring at my desktop. I've tried changing my video resolution: same deal. I've tried enabling pre-load of the textures. This produces a slight change: I stare at the preload box cycling for a few seconds, and then boom, I'm admiring my icons again.

Same here....patch didn't help....

I cannot run the new version either. I get an error message saying that Aces has encountered a problem and will have to close. Suggestions?
-
Just wanna add, same thing happens when I try to play offline
Edit: I dont get any error message, suddenly I just look at my desktop.
-
I just downloaded and have the same problem.
-
Yes Lasse, ditto for me, no offline functionality either.
-
I just downloaded the full version + Hi-Res pack and skin pack.
I installed these ontop of my old AH install, and now it works fine.
So there is your solution, I guess.
Probably some error in the upgrade download.
-
It's the same for me. During the patching, I got an error message that debris.wav couldn't be opened. After the patch I started AH and watched the Preload Tex Memory with all the .tca files.
Then I get a crash to desktop before it completes. Watching it over again it's always the same 3 files in the update that kick me: WLDCYMP_512.TCA, WXTREP12_512.TCA, and XTC1_512.TCA.
Hope this helps

Ditto.

Are all you running with maximum texture size set to 1024?
I am looking for some commonality.
-
Exactly same problem here!
Skuzzy, I've been using maximum texture size: 512.

i was able to go into offline mode but aceshigh will only seem to open from start menu 1 time then it just stays on desktop if i try to open it again.
-
I am also having this problem.
Got an error during the install about the debris.wav cannot be opened.
I can get to the server selection and then it says "Aces High has encountered a problem and needs to close" (Running Win XP) Then I am back to my desktop.

I think there is a problem with the auto update. In any case, when I downloaded the latest version of the executable from the webstite, my problem went away.
Sometime during the update that resulted in CTD I saw an error about debris.wav.
-
Are you guys running any custom sound packs? Gun sights? Terrains?
I am at home, and had the auto-updater install the patch, and it works fine. But I only have the basic installation of Aces High, with no custom stuff added.
I keep seeing this debris.wav file being mentioned, and it was in my sounds folder after the patch. Is it missing for you? If you have a custom sound pack installed, is there a chance the folder or files got marked as read-only?
-
No skuzzy im totally basic
-
Nevermind what I said. Read Pyro's post in the News section. I just happen to get the corrected patch.
-
Skuzzy,
I am totally basic. I went to HTC homepage and tried to download it from there. This is what I get:
"C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High ll\sounds\debris wave could not be oppened"
-
Thank you Skuzzy. I just went to the news and followed instructions. Everything working great now.
Thanks to Pyro also..

I'm having the same problem as everyone else, I used the auto updater, when I connect to main arena a download something box comes up and I get booted to my desktop.
I hope a little fix comes out, I have dial up and I'd rather not have to download 46 mbs again.

I'm running 1024x768, I can't play on or off line, I get booted to desktop when I enter an arena and I also got a debris wav error when my install was about 96% complete.
