Title: Fire

the new effects are just simply awesome.  love it like my first day of flying again!

one thing, anyone else notice that a burning a/c will immediately cease to burn if the wing falls off?

if this is for frame rates etc, then fair enough.

otherwise, i think it would be nice if both sections (wing/fusey) continued to burn separately as they fell.

what you chaps think?

Oh.....and WTFG on the ejection animations!

i have been wishing for the pilot/plane separation graphics since AH1 Circa 2003.

wehaay HTC team, you rock!

The question is can you actually get prop damage from the debris?

no the question is 'can the plane still burn after the wings fall off?' :D

close, but not quite there .

but yes, ive just thought of another question, a good one!

can the debris actually damage your prop??

There is a certain famous gun cam in color of a zeke getting flamed and then crashing into the water.

Hands down, AH made me tingle when the first time I saw the flame it was on the same colored green zeke and it augered into the water.

Nothing hit me immediately like watching that zeke go down, made 2.02 even more than my new P38 (which is pretty amazing btw).

It would be cool to get a splash effect like you see in that film your talking about Del.

Rather than the sound off smacking concrete

Btw, I got in an Lvt last night after hearing slapshot talking about it. VERY cool. All the water and stuff getting kicked up by the tracks and prop... The big plume of black smoke upon engine start, it all adds so much to the game. Very awsome stuff.

Some people are claiming that in some of the planes, under some situations, the flames go out.

Now, I've never seen this myself, and IIRC it was systematically impossible in previous versions of AH1 and AH2. Once a fire ignited, no way to put the flame off.

However, I've encountered a guy claiming  that his P-38J caught flames in the engine, and then the flames died out when the engines went dead.

Anyone else seen such thing happen in v2.02??

Yes.  I noticed flying through debris from a plane I shot down last night, his wing separated and I had to rudder hard left to miss the leftovers, heard a BANG, and looked around, noticed the props on my right engine (flying the P38G) were bent backwards and the engine had stopped.  It actually flew very well with only one engine, except trying to make flat turns.  Flew well enough to rtb 1.5 sectors away and land.

(edit)

Also noticed a similar effect if you run into the shells of buildings.  You can make it through sometimes without damage, even though you can hear the hits.  Other times you'll lose an engine or take wing damage.  I'm guessing its radom.

exactly the reason for this thread. read my post again, i didnt make it too clear.

if a plane is on fire, say from the left wing, when the wing root burns away and the wing falls off, the flames go out.

i imagine its the same with an engine, therefore when this guy's engine cutout, the flames went out.

in the case of the engine, its maybe i nice effect, it always sucks catching fire when you know there is 100% no chnce of it going out.

but in the case of the wing being burnt off, i think continued flames on wing and plane as they fall would be better looking.
