Title: LAN network question
Post by: mechanic on January 31, 2005, 03:53:16 AM
i tried to set up a 2 way session whit a friends laptop and my desktop last night. we connect to each other thro a decent nVidia hub and started the game.

in the game on the multiplayer LAN options screen, he could see my name in the lobby, and see what i was typing on his end, but on my end he didnt show up in the lobby and i couldnt see his text.

i tried playing with firewalls etc, but even with ever saftey function on my PC unchecked, it remained the same.

this was my first atemp to do a LAN battle, could anyone point me in the right dirrection for the solution?

thanks in advance.

1. Which game?
2. Since he could see you, the question becomes, did you guys check HIS computer to see what firewalls were setup?
3. 'LAN network' is redundant, LAN means 'Local Area Network'.  In effect, you said 'Local Area Network Network'.

It sounds like a game specific setting Mech. If one of you can see the other connected, the LAN connection is on.

Your just not getting your in game connect settings right. Don't be shy, say what game.

sure, the game is ROME: Total war.

lol about local area network network.

so maybe it was his firewall blocking me seeing him then?

start with the basics. make sure you can see him on the local network.

start - run - \\
start - run - command - ping

if you can browse his shares or ping him, then you're connected & eveything works fine. the problem would then probably be with RTW. Check the game's website & forums, and make sure there's not a known issue related to your problem.
