it works for slower cpu's (under 2.0ghz) and only with a 256mb video card .

AE my 1.3 ghz 512 ram , with a 9550 256 card has textures preloaded into video it gets 30-80 fps  it plays very nice this way

my 2.4ghz 512, 9600pro 128  worked losy with textures preloaded into memory .. just running it normal without any preloads it avg's 35-85 fps and the ingame sliders are alittle below what the lesser pc is set at  ( around 1/2 way ) with all the eye candy turned on .

It helps keep things smooth.

It takes longer for graphics to load from the hard drive to memory Better to just preload them right to memory to begin with. This way when a new aircraft comes into range the computer doesn't need to search the hard drive for the graphics and load them to memory (this may cause a momentary stutter or choppiness)..it's already there.

Depending on the video card, video memory preload should work best. If not, go with preload to system memory.

I think you mean preloading to VIDEO memory will only work with a 256MB card right?  Cause preloading to SYSTEM memory works fine no matter how much video memory you have.  :)
