At what alt should you drop troops from? How many troops does it take to capture a field or veh? I dropped some troops on a VH with ack down last night and they just seemed to disappear when they got to the ground. Do they all have to be right on the field?
I heard someone say it is best to land at the field and then let the troops off... doesn't seem realistic... but is this the best way?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Paxil,
The lowest safe height is about 700 ft in my experience but you might want to make it nearer 900ft.
The height is above the field (Not sea level) so if the field is at 1000ft you need to be at least 1700 - 1800 ft for a safe drop.
It takes 10 troops to caputure a field (Max load of C47 & M3), but they don't all have to have dropped from the same plane/vehicle. i.e 1 M3 & 1 C47 could lose upto half of there troops each and sill get the field, (It never ceases to amaze me that missions frequently have 2 of more buffs, half a dozen fighters and 1 goon... oh well).
Hope this helps

good advice from snafu paxil. I just use 1000 feet as a guidline. Ever see people asking what the al;titude of a base is?? thas why (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) They dont want too see their troops go splat.
you can always land the c47 too and let them out.

651 feet is absoulute min. I drop at 800+ AGL.
A good reference is the top of the smoke, which is 1000'.

Or even better if you*re not all too pushed just land, taxi up to themap roomm, and make a door delivery (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
(Note, you must come to a COMPLETE Stop before you unload troops .. they break their necks if they hop out at 3 mph :-/)
