Title: 17" to 19"
Post by: Ohio43 on February 01, 2005, 07:28:11 AM
Im presently using a 17" CRT.  When im on someone's six with about 500 distance, and the plane in my view is only about 1/2" wide.  I find this a hard target to see let alone shoot.  Has anyone switched from a 17" monitor to 19" monitor?  If so, has this made much of a difference in target size?

cant afford a 21".  Was wondering about 19" to see if anyone felt it was worth dumping money on for the difference in NME size

I did and its worth it IMO. I run 1600x1200 resolution, and its a big help. I only paid $175 for my 19" and it was worth every penny.

Ya where did you get that? Do you have a link by chance?
Id go with LCD but they are way out of my affordability.  Ill stick to puting my CRT's ass-end out the window (to save desktop space) for now until LCD prices come down some more.

I got mine from my local Circuit City but Newegg has it too.

Its up to $185 now, but thats still a great deal. The key is its optimum resolution is also the resolution I wanted to run in AH which is 1600x1200. The picture is crisp and I have been very satisfied.

That has a nice dot pitch for a CRT.  I just might get that.  Thanks

I just ordered the Sceptre 19 in lcd from newegg....395 for a 12ms response and 400/cd brightness. The little bit I've heard about Sceptre is good but you never know till ya know :)....my 19 inch llamya CTR bit the dust last month....been using my old 17 in.

I'll post my thoughts in a few days (should arrive tomorrow or friday).....

Humble:  I cannot afford LCD's at this juncture.  My budget is around 200 dollars.  Im waiting for that market to take it's supply and demand
price plunge.  I would, however, welcome your thoughts regarding
your opinion whether a jump from 17" to 19" really makes much difference
in target size (in un-zoomed mode)
Ace: I have tried the Zoom feature and I personally have two problems with that.  I get a clostrophobic(Sp?) feeling with that, and if targets make even the slightest move, they exit your view really quick. The second being, in an attempt to counter this problem, I had mapped the zoom to my j/s so i could disable zoom back to normal view, but I find, in the heat of a battle, im fumbling for flap buttons, throttle, controlling x and y axis's etc...and in that process, I always seem to manage to accidentally hit my mapped zoom button when not intended (usually at at very bad moment).
Heh, at one time, I had this bright idea of mapping my clipboard to
my j/s.  Don't know HOW many times I accidentally hit that button as I was saddling up on someone's six.  Needless to say, those engagements got ugly really fast.

I do think it matters, not just in gunnery but in seeing overall detail with regard to plane movement...it adds a significant overall "volume" to the screen....
