Title: Turrent Orientation Indicator and Multi Crewed GV's
Post by: Leayme on February 01, 2005, 01:17:51 PM
I would like to see an indicator in the gunsite of the panzer/T34/tiger/M8 that indicates exactly where you are pointing in relation to the front, especially when you are switching between gunner and commander positions. If I recall correctly this was a feature in many tanks.

Could be marked in degrees like a compass and be unobtrusively located in the site somewhere.

It would even be nice if there was a similiar set up when using the commanders cupola, you spot an enemy tank at bearing 270, drop into the gunners position and swing your barrel onto the same bearing and look for your target, would simulate the effect of having a commander aiding in threat location.

Or perhaps we could make Gv's joinable, so you could have a driver/machine gunner, a commander and a gunner :D  in those vehicles having more than 2 positions.

Imagine driving across the battle field with the driver looking out his view slit, the gunner looking thru his sight and a commander manning the machine gun and looking for both air and ground threats:aok

You see something mean and nasty lining up on you or maybe he hasn't seen you, commander tells driver to go to the  right to get a hull down position and commander talks the gunner onto the target  and...........

It would mean selecting a private channel to keep from confusing other GV operators in the area, but just imagine the possibilites.

Heh, when I first signed up with AH2 and didnt know what I was doing, I accidentally "joined" and GV (tank).  Did they change this?  Im not sure, though..I may have just been an observer
If it cant be done now, I agree.  That would be an awesome feature.  My son and I would have a blast sharing a tank

GVs are joinable, as any other plane with more than one position, each position locks out the second player when occupied.

More than two players per vehicle/formation is technicaly unfeasible.

Remote turret rotation would be very helpful and closer to reality of a full crew, with the rotation mapped to the rudders as the tracks are from the turret atm.

In Airwarrior the Bombers had the capability to fully man a B17 as well as other bombers. ie. the B17 could have 2 waist gunners 1 tail gunner 1 nose gunner 1 pilot 1 ball gunner 1 top gunner and 1 navigator....yes I said navigator This allowed 8 players to be onboard the same aircraft. You are the second person (USHwk1) was the first, that i heard say that it is impossible/nfeasible to have the computer handle more than 2 players on the same AC. Why do you think this? After all Airwarrior is now a relic in the software world.
Please explain in technical terms. Thanks.

OMG Muskee, those were the days with a fully manned B-17 in AW.  That was so cool..pick your position from available gunner slots, and you could communicate with voice with all the riders (assuming the vox didnt go out..which it frequently did).  Wonderful set-up how they did that.
Only draw back was that once you joined, you couldn't bail out till the sortie was done (or die in flight).  Even that wasnt too bad cause it made for some interesting chat for the long ride.  Heh, even loved the game cause I could pull a 90 degree flat turn INVERTED, lol.  Threw off many an opponent with that move :)

Recently (2.01) I've had people join me in my tank, and when they were in, neither of us could fire the gun.

I forgot, but I do remember the reason made sense.
Ask HT or Pyro for the exact details.

Okay, if the multi crewed GV is not really possible or likely, how about the Turret orientation Indicator and the idea for the commanders cupola, this shouldn't be overly complicated .

It would like I said , simulate a commander being on board, since I do spend some time in the commanders position when moving, since it gives me a better chance to spot enemy armour lying in wait or sneaking by me, never mind avoiding the crop dusting Lancasters:rofl

I had my son join my tank just two nights ago.  No problems at all.  I drove..he could either use the main gun or pintle.  Guns fired.
Oh, there was one nagging problem.  My son is 12 yrs. old, and although the technical aspect of the mission went well, he kept
asking me every two minutes, "DDDDAAAADDD, are we almost there yet?"
And the occassional, "I need to go to the bathroom."  :)

Im not sure if more than 2 people in a tank is wise. The communication would be hard and each player has only 1 job to do instead of 2 or 3, it would get boring.

Nowadays, 1 player can man the drivers position and the hull gunner while the other player mans the main gun and the pintle gun
