Title: Something to do with bomber perks
Post by: Angus on February 03, 2005, 09:31:59 AM
I know it's been mentioned before, just couldn't resist, - not too much going on in the forum anyway.
So, what then? Ahh, the V-1, of course. How about it in AH?
Buy it by the bundles for bomber perks at certain bases, click target and launch.
Useless of course, except as nuicance and for flattening big targets, or assisting with it.
However a good target to chase, migt spice up the game a bit.

Brilliant, out-of-the-box thinking, Angus.  My hat is off to you.  We need these.  Not only would they be a wonderful toy to chase, but think of them as...

a diversion.

Thirty doodlebugs up from a base.  All headed in the same direction.  On Dar, it looks like another Horde (tm) mission.

Ahh, but it is NOT.  It is a diversion, while the Horde (tm) sneaks NOE to another base, capturing it despite the confused last-minute defenders.

It is to laugh.  Mwuahahahahaha...

This has to do with player to player, air to air combat in what way exactly?

The fact that V-1's occupied large #'s of aircraft dedicated to intercepting them.

I think it is a wonderful idea, that would only enhance game play for all.

W00T V1 RAID!!!!!  The 234 just doesn't have it.  Or perhaps we could get the Mistel?;)

Now if I launched the V1, can I ride it into target like that movie?:D

btw Hanna Reitsch and others were working on a piloted suicide version of the V1 that was actually flown, according to a History channel program.  Not that big a leap to a version air launched from the existing Ju88 (a reverse Mistel) or new buff such as Do217 (can add the guided glidebombs to that one then or later also :)).  That combo could also stand in for the G4M-Okha combo if an Okinawa\Olympic\Coronet uber-kamikaze scenario is ever done (add battleships for that please).

Yeah, Hanna Reitsch flew it, but I never heard it was a suicide program, thought she was just testing speed etc.
As for the speculation what it would add to gameplay, being a drone, well, we have drones, and we have computer controlled ack, TOD will have more drones, so why not?

Should be able use perks to "buy off" an ENY restriction.

V-1's were point and forget, not a guided weapon. Just turn the fleet. But can't move a land target. The perk cost should be HUGH.

V1s agenst a CV would be a bad idea, if you are in a Shore Battery a CV can move 2 ship lengths befor your round gets there, you would need to launch the V1 forn less than 5 miles to even get close.

However if V1 is manned then the CV will be sleeping with the fish.:D

It would be:

1. Somewhat useful against very big land targets, like towns or such.
2. A wee bit useful against targets like airfields, where maybe 10% would land withing the perimeter. These are 2000 lbs warheads BTW.
3. Quite useful as a desperate measure, especially since we all have tons of bomber perks....rows and rows of V-1's going for towns, fields, depots, etc.
4. Very useful as a distraction, - dots and dots on the radar...
5. Pointless against a moving target, such as fleet.
6. A most welcome target for the speed monsters, - the thing is cruising somewhere between 360 and 400 mph.

8 inch guns don't have 2000 lbs warhead.
15 inch guns however do.

Kongo class fast battleships with 14 inch guns! Buyable with bomber perks! Each with a few destroyers.

Kongo?
How about King George, Bismarck, or USS Iowa, or the Gneisenau?
Or, once in the Navy, a quick cruiser like the British ones, i.e. HMS Belfast etc.
6 inch guns don't pack the punch of the 8 inch ones we have, but the ROF is much faster, and there's 12 of them.
Interesting for navy vs navy.

Anyway, the V-1 offers something else, - it's interceptable :)

I suppose we could get whatever battleship sports the same size guns as those shore batteries, assuming those arent 8 inch guns.  I liked the Kongos, played a big part at Guadalcanal until the US Navy mobbed them.

I think the question of avenues to spend bomber perks is a valid one.......................... ..

However the concept of spending such perks for one off shots with systems carrying "single shot"  1800lbs with accuracies of a few miles would make it redundant in AH............ it was basically a "terror weapon" and AH has no civilian population to be terrorised.

Folk (IMO)are not going to spend perks on stuff which has only a 1 in 5 chance of hitting an airfield and then only a 1 in 10 chance of hitting anything on the airfield.

IM0 HTC could add at minimal development costs perked ........

1) Lancaster with Tallboy  (or even 2 Lancs, the other having  the Grand Slam)

2) Mossie Bomber with 4000lb cookie.

3) Me262  based bomber.

I am a terrible divebomber, but yet I hit something the size of a town with some success.
I'd love to use some of my overflooded bomber perks just for this:
1. Be able to knock an 1800 lbs into a town, even on a 1 to 10 scale
2. More importantly, be able to "push the line" with a massive counterstrike of V-1's, - bear in mind that it could be several players working together, each maybe launching maybe 3 or so, even from many directions.
They will show on radar, be chased, maybe hit something, but definately draw some force.
Which is exactly what they did. The RAF and USAF had an enormous effort going on to keep them down.
